October 2002 War Resolution Vote - Election year rush? |
|
I remember a lot of talk leading up to the Senate vote giving * the power to go to war, after all other means were exhausted, about the vote being forced by gwb before the election.
I am not hearing much about that now. Would the votes have changed if the senate vote had been after the 2002 election?

people are also not remembering that time either. it was less than a year after 9/11 the u.s. was pretty raw. it was even being said that bush was using 9/11 to manipulate this vote, and it was also said out loud the dems during that raise were just trying to make it thru the election. everything was strongly pro bush, pro repugs. dems were doing all they could to not lose more
what good would it have done for the dems to have taken a stand at that time, and not be elected for position. i feel, that we have to understand what it was in 2002, the dire straight dems were in. some point finger and say they should have had balls. well balls were gonna get them kicked out. adn the bottom line, to have lost even more dems would not have done any of us any good.
the democrats i feel were doing the best they could in the climate they were in
then dean came on the radar. and he was one courages soul that critized bush and said he was wrong. and he took a lot of flack for it, but he opened things up so americans could say out loud, yuk bush. we were all unamerican, unpatriotic, non christians, terrorists, if anyone spoke out against bush
now is a different time. sometimes, one has to go with the flow to win, and go for the jugular when the time comes

. . . that is why a vote date after the election would have allowed the senate to vote without fear of immediate reprisal.
The war resolution vote was partisan politics in an evil form

3. bush did wrong on this. bush used the fear of american people |
|
to manipulate them into war. to manipulate them into allowing our soldiers to die. the media followed right along too. there was no way they were going to be unpatriot and challenge bush.
we like to blame the dems for this
but the corruption and as you say "evil" was in bush and his action and the republican party as a whole

trying to stall the vote.
Again - I agree with you. The first step toward war in Iraq was getting the vote before the election.
The war is and has been a tragedy of global proportions with one person to be held accountable in THIS election - gwb
He MUST be held accountable for the senseless deaths of thousands on innocent lives.
That October vote sealed the fate of innocent people.
