Texas judge's flyer suggests criminals support Obama

A county judge in Lubbock, Texas, is facing questions about his impartiality after he posted a flyer on his courthouse wall showing arrest photos of nine individuals wearing Obama T-shirts.

A note underneath the poster read: "Just think about this for a second: Did you ever see anyone arrested wearing a Bush T-shirt, or for you older folks, an Eisenhower?, Gerald Ford?, Ronald Reagan?"

4. Indeed, it's the ultimate irony that republicans today have become everything the GOP used to hate
Seriously, a lot of the issues the GOP cares the most about are completely flipped around today (though some of the issues are slightly different since this is 160 years later).

-Taxes & spending (then: The GOP despised how the south constantly opposed tariff raises & new spending on infrastructure like roads, and railroads, now: The GOP considers it the ultimate sin to dare vote for even a penny in tax increases, and believes increased spending on infrastructure is just wasteful pork barrel spending)

-Racism & discrimination issues (then: The GOP despised slavery, and was much more sympathetic and accepting to black people then their southern opponents, some radical republicans even believed in giving blacks the same rights as white people (a very radical view back then), now: The GOP has become the party of the racist southerners, the very people the GOP used to hate because of the slavery issue, and the GOP has become the party that favors discrimination towards persecuted minority groups like gays, Muslims, etc)

And there's plenty of other big differences two, but those two broad areas really sum it up nicely.

It's the ultimate irony that the GOP was founded in New England as a Northern only party, and now they're nearly dead in the New England area.

5. It is ironic. The GOP has reaped what the Southern Strategy has sown.
Republicans are giddy about what they anticipate as huge election wins this year and next, but any such wins are more likely to be death rattles rather than strong vital signs.

7. Uhm, Lincoln was a racist.
His records has been a tad bit whitewashed, but he didn't believe in equality, and would have kept slavery if it would save the union.

The party of Lincoln is *still* the party of Lincoln.

9. The same can be said of Planned Parenthood's founder
Margaret Sanger was a rabid racist. Her views, which I would compare to eugenics, would be condemned today.

For his time Lincoln was fairly forward thinking. But I do agree that the party he helped bring into the public attention has changed quite a bit.

10. You're right about Sanger.
Pre-DNA, people had really, really, weird ideas about heritability.

You're also accurate that I am making judgments based on present social beliefs.

That being said, the groundwork for making different judgments was laid centuries before.
