Question RE: President Obama's Stimulus Plan
We all here know that Obama had to compromise some to get his Stimulus Plan passed earlier this year, which basically amounted to him accepting some tax cuts as part of the package. Right now, there are some encouraging signs that the Stimulus Plan has, if nothing else, staunched the hemorrhaging that was previously occurring throughout the economy. Kudos!
The main question that I have is, have there been any studies done yet showing how and where exactly the stimulus has helped and, more specifically, whether or not the tax cuts- that apparently *HAD* to be included in the package to win some Blue Dog/GOP support- have had any effect, positive or negative, on the glimmers of success we are seeing right now, at least in turns of helping stabilize the economy and if so, how and where have THEY helped the economy stabilize? After all, the Republicans keep on wanting to insist that tax cuts are the best (and perhaps to them) the only way to help an ailing economy, so I think that it wouldn't be too hard to try to use their inclusion in the Stimulus Plan to try to understand better what impact, if any, they actually had. So far, most of the successes I've heard about in regards to the Stimulus seems to be enabling states and communities to plug holes in their budgets and things like the runaway success of the "cash-for-clunkers" program (was this part of the Stimulus Plan?) but I haven't heard anybody talk about any particular tax cuts from the plan helping in any way. Anybody know anything about this?

1. You're mistaken

The tax cuts were his idea. Don't you remember the campaign?

2. Which tax cuts are you referring to?

It's been a minute.
I think I do remember it included some middle-class tilted tax cuts but I thought that he had to lard the Stimulus Plan with some other corporate *goodies*.

3. President Obama did not have to compromise to get a stimulus plan passed by Congress

The so-called "compromise" with Republicans enabled President Obama to win 0, that a big ZERO, Republican votes in the House of Representatives and three Republican Senate votes.

That's a grand total of 3 Republican votes among 535 members of Congress!

And this "compromise" enabled three Senate Republicans to write and dictate the terms of the "compromise", a "compromise" in which less than 20% is being used for actual infrastruture and public works job creation!

The three Senate Republicans who apparently were assigned the task of writing the stimulus bill, tore the guts out of the House version when it went to conference.

That's what a few Republicans Senators will do again if a healthcare bill manages to come out of a House/Senate conference committee.

The unending quest for a non-existent and fairytale bi-partisanship can only lead to a failed presidency and the Republican party regaining control of Congress and the White House.

Did I write regain control of Congress? Did they ever lose control?

4. You're right
I should have written "compromise" like this instead.
