A Quick Note for those Who Want To Abandon Obama and the Democratic Party en masse |
|
Enjoy President Palin in 2013 and the war in Iran in 2014.
Enjoy the death and destruction that will ensue. Enjoy more tax giveaways to the very wealthy instead of a stimulus package and an increase in the min. wage.
Yes, it's much easier to abandon the Dems and Obama than it is to consider the most vulnerable amongst us. I'm sure that the people of New Orleans are glad that Florida progressives voted their high-minded ideals when voting for Nader in 2000. I'm sure that they really appreciated your idealism when bodies were floating down the street in 2005.
But go ahead leave, but don't kid yourself. Abandoning the Dems will lead to folks like Michelle Bachman heading committees on whether Obama is an American citizen or not.

6. Other Political Parties kinda suck -- after my readings |
|
I decided to read up on the alternatives to dem/repub....geez they suck...the only worthwhile one was the Green Party but it sounded a little too warm-fuzzy that could get walked over by even the democrats who are a party of wusses (good lord if the repubs got a hold of their necks). The other parties were pretty stupid and seem more right-leaning (and in some issues extreme right-leaning).
I admire Kucinich (sp?) and Weiner and so i kind of baffled why they are democrats since their beliefs stand no chance of even being given a chance at a floor vote...not because their brethren dont hold the same beliefs but because they have no backbone to make real change.

Since when has Florida's votes ever counted? After the republicans dismissed Florida votes, the democrats tossed them out as well. Don't blame Florida for any of this stuff. As for Palin, she is done. Even if she did want to run, the republicans won't allow it.

13. No, You Would Not Have Had "Worse" |
|
You would have had Armageddon. No joke. No hyperbole. McCain was more neo-con than Bush. McCain would have started bombing Iran by now and preparing for a full fledged invasion.
And, don't kid yourself for one minute about what life would be like under a Palin admin.
So, no. It's not a choice between the lesser of two evils. It's a choice for incremental change for the better and a Stephen King nightmare.

17. We Don't and That's Life |

Your choices are Stephen King-like nightmares or incremental change.
I'm 45 years old. I'm unemployed, and I don't have health insurance. I've made compromises my whole life just to get what little I have.
I've learned that pouting and getting angry about what you don't have just does not pay the bills. You have to fight for the best deal that you can get.

The flailing melodrama spazzes who want to make some kind of narcissistic grandstanding out of all this do none of us any good.
Then again, our President has benefited mightily from irrational and often unfounded exhuberance; it's only fitting that he should get swacked with some reciprocal childishness.
It's a long journey; he's still got about 85% of this term in front of him.
The left has been ABSOLUTELY neglected and fucked with for the last 30 years, treated like the Republicans treat fundamentalists: cajoled into sticking with those who mouth solidarity, then patronizingly patted on the head and told that the time is just not right for bold moves.
Major forces are at play here, and the mountains of money and privilege stacked against ANY change have incredible power. Then again, it would be easier to fight them if it was really tried, and corporatists just really don't want to...
This may all be a good thing if many elements of the broad coalition that propelled this President into office stop with the sickening blind faith, hero worship and pathetic servile "hope" and hold some feet to the fire.
We don't really know all of what's going on behind the scenes; Obama may be the deft dancer so many say he is, and he simply may not have been able to position himself well enough to make major gains here. We just don't know.
Icarus is losing some feathers; I think that's a good thing, and I think he has the character and sticktoitiveness to keep moving. Only time will tell whether he is truly as much of a corporatist as I fear, but even so, there's lots that CAN be done.
Enough of the drama, though...

10. maybe after we're done "enjoying" all those things, |

the "democrats" will remember who they are.
Or better yet, a real labor and green party will emerge.
