If it's a co-op, it must be national, with a majority of gov't appointed board members |
|
Anything else will suck.

1. It will still suck, but that has as much chance as a strong public option |

The reason the insurers, the medical industry, and their whore conservative Congress members dont want a strong public option is because it provides too much competitive leverage on their business model, which would force them to lower premiums and costs (such as drug prices).
An effective national co-op would also bring its own leverage on their business model.
Thats why Baucus and his merry men want only small co-ops, at the most no bigger than small regional ones.

what I could support is a co-op with a trigger to become a real public option if prices don't come down.
Which they won't.
I won't be happy about it, but I'd live with it.
In the end, I still have strong faith in an actual PO being in there. Why? Because I just don't see how it passes the house without one (after coming out of conference).
If the progressives fold on that...well...that ain't Baucus' fault.
