I sent this letter to Patrick Murphy (PA-8) (among others) |
|
Dear Rep. Murphy,
As your constituent I want to let you know that I am sending similar letters to Senators Casey and Specter, Representative Sestak and President Obama. I wish to be blunt. I was apolitical before George Bush's runup to the Iraq War. Once politicized I read, volunteered, wrote letters to the editor, stood outside of polling stations, donated, made phone calls. All of it. All the things we are told are necessary to get our people in. Well, we got you in. You have a vast majority in the House and 60 votes in the Senate. Now, in case no one has told you, let me. All of you were put in to do 2 things, get us out of Iraq and get us health care. Everything else is window dressing. It is looking very much right now like our majority is going to be for naught. Because Senator Baucus is on the payroll of the insurance companies he is letting a lunatic like Charles Grassley stop real health care reform. This is unacceptable. Let me be clear, if we do not get reform with a public option out of this I will never give a damn about politics again and none of you can blame us when you lose your jobs. There will be another Newt and another contract with America and any of you we got in won't have any room to complain because when you had the chance you let these guys roll over on you. None of the people screaming at the town halls will vote for you, ever. They are republicans who will vote for the republican no matter what. It's us who put you in there. Now please, get it done.
Thank you.

that letter can be improved upon. It's perfect.
I wish more of these Blue Dogs would take the time to look to the future and what the country will be like if the current batch of Republicans get control of the governement again. Even the Blue Dogs will be marginalized. THey shouldn't expect the Republicans to look to them to appear bipartisan.
Porgressives and liberals will do what the moderate Republicans did in 2008 - stay home. Talk about shooting themselves in the feet.

The BLue Dogs win because liberal and progressives in their states and districts vote for them time after time because they can't stomach the thought of some right wing twit in their place. If they don't deliver some liberal/progressive legislation, at least once in a while, then there will be no reason to show up and help them keep their jobs.
