What would be gained by President Obama drawing a line in the sand on public option? |
|
Nothing.
It would give the GOP a single target-issue to kill the bill and it would take away any negotiating room the President has. He should keep his cards close to the vest. Talk about being for or against public option is speculation.

2. He would be providing LEADERSHIP |
|
And support for those who have supported HIM on this issue.
Instead, we all got a nice little knife in the back.

11. Yea, setting the whole thing up for complete failure is leadership. |
|
What an empty phrase that means nothing.

13. I agree. He should not be setting us up for failure. |
|
Which is what he seems to be doing right now.

16. Do you feel that the recent statements |

by the Pres and Admin have shown strong support for the public options?
Just wondering....

And also tell the GOP to shove that unconstitutional 60-vote rule in the Senate up their asses!

6. Obama has already drawn the line in the sand last month.. in order for him to sign |
|
the bill.. there has to be a public option portion. But he is NOT going to just stand on that and give the right the red meat they want to keep ginning up the teabaggers. The bill when it finally reaches his desk, is going to have many parts to it.. The bill is not just one thing. He is playing it smart..

8. Some DUers will not like him even if he can walk on water and shit ice cream. And leadership is |
|
finding a way to deliver the bill in the end. I believe all this was predictable based on the last attempts to get reform passed.

9. Possibly the public option. Likewise, feet not made of clay. |
|
He should VETO any health insurance reform bill that lacks a public option.

10. You should have asked the President that question. |
|
After all, he said on July 18, 2009, "That’s why any plan I sign must include an insurance exchange: a one-stop shopping marketplace where you can compare the benefits, cost and track records of a variety of plans – including a public option to increase competition and keep insurance companies honest – and choose what’s best for your family."
How could he have been so stupid? Why did he have to draw that line in the sand?

14. Read Paul Krugman's blog post about it |
|
It's about signaling to progressives that "he's one of us".
