Perhaps I expected too much(Maybe we all did)
when I expected the president to take a stand and defend his position.
perhaps I expected too much when I expected him to lead the party and the nation on a clearer course
perhaps I expected too much when I expected Reid and Pelosi to enforce a little party discipline.
perhaps I expected too much when I expected The president to explain clearly what He wants, and why we should want it too.

perhaps Hope and change is just a slogan I swallowed hook line and sinker

No perhaps... I expected too much

1. We'll see. I still think our biggest problem is weak leadership in the Senate
How does Reid allow Baucus to just do what the hell he wants?

2. is he untouchable?
I'm sure in the old days the president would have seen to it he got his comeuppance.

3. Maybe you were unrealistic
Obama was elected President. Sixty Democrats in the Senate could be useful for many things, but did you really expect the sellouts to change?

9. another hit and run?
do you ever actually comment?
why slam me over and over without ever actually adding anything?
does it make you feel comfortably superior?

I had higher hopes than it looks like will be realized.

That makes me an average democrat everywhere except here.
here is makes me.... what?

13. I'm not one for blind hero worship.
Nor am I one for the other extreme. How can you call the game when it isn't even the 4th quarter yet?

17. I would rather expect too much
. . . than be one of those who expect so little.

The former are the kinds of people who change the world, the latter the ones who hold everyone back.

One of the better things (and there were so few) to come from the Bush presidency was that speechwriter who popularized the phrase "the soft bigotry of low expectations."

It's a powerful line, and so very many people are guilty of it even when they mean well. Sometimes especially when they mean well.

18. I feel pretty much the same way, but...
there is still time and room to fight for the best policy.

Don't let the chorus of "can do no wrongers" get you down.

Sign up with Howard Den and help us apply the pressure to the wafflers and would-be sellouts from the Senate to the White House.

19. I can't give up hope - too much of what is happening is not
an abstraction for me - both the healthcare issues and the state of the economy are impacting my life in profound ways. I have to put my faith in the notion that Obama can become the leader he promised us he would be.

That said - Obama has performed pretty much as I expected - like a rookie politician with no real experience or record of accomplishing what he said he would accomplish. The Party took a gamble based on expectations, some of them unrealistic, of who this guy was and what he could be.

There's still time for the "what he could be" part....
