Miller memo calls Carter, other Democrats 'disaster'
<ATLANTA - In a new memo to Democratic candidates, Sen. Zell Miller says presidential nominee John Kerry is bad for Georgia Democrats and calls former President Jimmy Carter, state party chairman Bobby Kahn and former congressman Ben Jones "a Board of Deacons for Democratic Disaster."

In the memo, obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Miller said that when he was executive director of the Georgia Democratic Party in 1972, he and party leaders found a way to maintain Democratic dominance in Georgia by avoiding any connection between their top candidates and then-Democratic presidential nominee George McGovern, an anti-war candidate who lost to Richard Nixon.

"But today, unfortunately, no one in our party even dares to think like this, and it is killing our party," he wrote, accusing Kahn of hanging "John Kerry around the neck of every one of our candidates."

Miller, national chairman of Democrats for Bush, also warned Democratic candidates that the only way for many of them to get elected is to "get Kerry from around your neck, and do it quickly and loudly."

Carter and Kahn criticized Miller after his speech at the Republican National Convention, saying he betrayed his party. Miller also has been targeted by Jones, who once represented a Georgia district and now lives in Virginia.>

6. Have you seen the divorce decree?
Some months ago the democrats in Savannah, GA issued an
"official divorce decree" to Zell Miller. It was a
scream. The DNC should follow suit.

8. If they had booted him from the party....He would have to call his group
EX-democrat for Buxh.

"Before it's all over, I think you're going to see a very impressive group of Democrats from around the nation supporting the Bush-Cheney team," Mr. Miller said.

Go fuck yourself, Zell

For the Zell of it...Here they are:

Rodney Alexander (D-La.),
Allen Boyd (D-Fla.),
Jim Marshall (D-Ga.),
Jim Matheson (D-Utah)
and Dennis Moore (D-Kan.)

13. Why is this group assuming that because...(m)
these politicians are not endorsing Kerry that they are by default endorsing Bush? For example, I didn't think Matheson was a Bush fan.

16. I somehow doubt that D4B even asked if they could put their names....
...on the site.

It just says they don't "support" Kerry.
Zell was under pressure to supply a list of members as he promised.

15. The first one already changed to Republican and is being
sued by the Democratic Party of LA. He switched his party designation at the deadline so no other candidate could be put on the ballot. Typical republican dirty tricks. the others might as well change their party designation as well because they will never be allowed any seats on any committees that matter and certainly will never gain a chairmanship as a Democrat.

19. McGovern
Ok, something that's been bugging me for awhile is how people have such an off-base perception of McGovern now. When Dean was on top, every pundit was going on and on about how they didn't want a disaster like McGovern, who lost huge because he was such an extreme, anti-war liberal. Examine these points:
1. McGovern wanted to pull out of Vietnam immediately. This caused Nixon to move to the center and looked for a quicker exit out of Vietnam. If McGovern HAD won, he would have immediately pulled out of Vietnam. How is that a bad thing? Nothing was accomplished by staying there any longer, Saigon still fell, and the "domino theory" was shot to hell. Everyone today thinks Vietnam was a mistake, so why is McGovern nuts for being anti-Vietnam? McGovern was a decorated hero from WW2, so he was obviously a patriot.
2. Everyone says that he lost because he was liberal, but in reality the Eagleton fiasco is what killed McGovern. People were somewhat attracted to his authenticity, but when the VP fiasco blew up in his face, he looked more like a crafty politician, so he lost the appeal that he had as a radical, outsider, anti-politician. It wasn't his views that turned people off, it was how he handled his campaign.
3. Nixon was nearly impeached and did incredibly huge damage to American in his 2nd term. If McGovern was president, America would not have had to experience something as traumatic as Watergate. Our national character was forever changed by that scandal, so in hindsight, wouldn't McGovern have been a much much better President than Nixon?

Off topic rant, just pisses me off.
