Oh-oh, socialized medicine is coming to North Carolina.
Starting in fall 2010 ... a new health insurance policy kicks in then, mandating that all students at UNC system campuses, about 215,000 people, have health insurance. Students must either prove they have their own, or buy insurance through a new plan designed to leverage the system's buying power to offer reasonable premiums and better coverage than most campuses do now on their own.

According to the article, the new plan would cost students $549 to $679 annually for $100,000 coverage with a $300 deductible, depending on the school they attend.

I'd take that deal, wouldn't you?

3. One serious illness or accident and you would be bankrupted...
at only $100,000 coverage. Not too bad a gamble for people in their teens and twenties, but a bit dangerous for older people.

It is a start however.

5. $100,000 coverage is not much in case of a serious accident or illness.
For routine care it's alright and certainly better than nothing, but people need to realize that in case of a serious accident or illness they are S.O.L. with this policy.

6. From what I've read
This isn't a "public option," it is Blue Cross/Blue Shield or another private company.

The State Health Plan is for Faculty and Administration.

Correct me if I'm wrong???

7. Duke already has the same type program.
But then, Duke is always a step ahead of UNC.
