Michigan is a swing state. Detroit has one of the biggest black populations in the country. Tavis was not on the same pay as the propaganda-ministers at All Things Considered and Morning Edition. Now he's off the airwaves in Detroit.

Damn.

2. They must be in financial trouble
I noticed they also dropped Terry Gross's show. That would indicate cost cutting measures.

4. Terry Gross's show is awful and it's probably really expensive.
The funny thing about dropping Terry in Detroit is that she has had on that guy Chubba Cietta (I can't spell his name). He's an auto journalist from, I believe, Ann Arbor, who will tell the most outrageous lies in support of the auto industry. Gross has him on occassionally to manufacture desire and mislead people about SUV's, etc. She also isn't afraid to use an interview of that British actor as an excuse to talk about the BMW car ads for a full hour.

She's a good friend of the auto industry.

So, it's funny that WDET is dropping her.

10. she had a fantastic interview with Christopher Dickey, from NewsWEAK
one of the few truthtellers

he has no truck with either side in this

says it's MUCH worse than is being portrayed

says one of the biggest industries is KIDNAPPING....not the ones you see on TV, but taking ordinary people....getting their CARS and stuff to return them

nobody walks the street like they did in Vietnam at the height of the war...they wear HELMETS and flak vests in the Green Zone now....stuff like that

3. where will people go...
to see someone suck up to Newt Gingrich, David Brooks, and Ann Coulter?

Seriously, I've never seen a TV host suck up to his guests the way Tavis does. Some of these right-wingers (especially Coulter) have no business being on the air at all, let alone with a host that doesn't like challenging them, in fact goes out of his way to butter them up.

This is based on his TV show, I haven't heard his radio show enough to have a strong opinion.

Plus, his TV show is underwritten by Wal-Mart. :puke:

5. You have to read between the lines.
He puts on the smile with those people, but listen to what he's asking them.

Also, listen to the information he gets on the airwaves. If being balanced on Tavis Smiley means giving Cornel West a regulat slot and then merely being civil to a few right wingers while eliciting the rope to hand themselves, it's a fair price to pay.

This is NPR after all, and apprently he wasn't enough of a whore for consumption that WDET couldn't live without him. (Notice, they're keeping The Motley Fool and Tech Nation, which are both basically shows telling you what you can spend money on.)

7. And he sounds like an idiot every time he's on.
I think Tavis's show is the perfect example of how you can civily engage people with whom you disagree.

8. agree on the civility....he needs to be more agressive when it's
obvious his guests are LTAO, as Watts does almost every time he opens his mouth

did you see him on that infomercial?

how embarrassing
