Only a Kennedy.....
Edited on Thu Aug-27-09 05:55 PM by Clio the Leo
..... would stand outside and greet public mourners who have come to pay respect to their fallen patriarch as they are doing now ..... I've seen Ethel, Joe, apparently Caroline is there too and other younger members who have those signature noses and shaggy hair. They are shaking hands with those going through the viewing line. They could just as easily be gathered at home, rubbing mournful elbows with the political elite, but no ..... Kennedy's dont do that.

(And the fact that there are millions of them and they can go in shifts probably helps too! lol)

1. Not really. I recall the Reagans being front and center. But
yes, it's nice to see despite how difficult this must be.

8. Unfortunately the Kennedys have had more practice doing it than most of us.
They certainly set a high bar in how they conduct themselves.

I think the Reagans have publicly acknowledged that they adopted much from how the Kennedy's conducted JFK's and RFK's funeral when the Reagans came to organize RR's funeral.

9. But a good debater knows..............
...... you never defend the other side. :)

Ok ..... let's try this again ........

Kennedys = Living Saints on Earth.

Obama = Messianic SuperHero

Joe Biden = God's gift to womankind. (and heck, some of the men too!)

Reagans = evil Bush VP-namers!!!! (except for the other night when Nancy called into Hard Ball)

oh and ......

Tweety = The Edward R Murrow of the modern era.

just keep repeating that over and over until it sticks. :silly:

11. And a good comedienne knows...........
..... you have to sometimes throw in hyperbole lest anyone think you're being serious. ;)

On a random note ...... how cool would it be to sit at the funeral next to Tweet ... oh the sounds he'd make. The under the breath comments.

2. It's common practice at most funerals. Greet people as they come in.

5. Must be a regional thing.....
.... because the family doesn't stand OUTSIDE of the funeral home to greet mourners here in the southland ..... it's usually too darned hot. :)

The family is usually inside near the casket and you go to THEM ..... must be a hold over from the days where folks "sat up with the dead."

12. Andrea Mitchell said every single one of them, no matter how
young were greeting mourners.

The thing that I thought was just "so Kennedy," was hearing that according to Kennedy family tradition a family member will remain with Teddy's body every moment until he is buried. Even though they have an Honor Guard watching over him, one of them will be with him every second through the night and day until he is buried. They're covering the night in shifts.

13. I remember Susan Ford and her brothers
greeting people at the Capitol rotunda when President Ford was laying in state/repose. It was inside, but the 4 children a nd some grandchildren were shaking hands with everyone who came to pass by the casket.

15. It is a surprising experience...having people you don't know touch you
and give their condolences. It is really the only time in my life that I have welcomed a stranger into my private pain. I think they need it. They are human after all. Most human.
