CNN - Top Democrat: Kerry to hit Bush on Iraq...Iraq mothers to join

looks like something big in the works?

(CNN) -- Mothers of U.S. troops serving in Iraq will help Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry make the case Monday that President Bush's optimistic view of the war does not reflect reality, Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe said Sunday.

Kerry will make a "major address" on the issue at New York University, where at least five mothers of service members will criticize Bush's leadership in Iraq, McAuliffe told reporters in a conference call.

"They're sick and tired of George W. Bush and his rosy scenarios," he said. "They want America to know the truth, because they're talking to their sons and daughters" who have told them that Bush "is not telling the truth."

McAuliffe said the United States is "stuck in a quagmire" -- paying 90 percent of the costs of the war and suffering 90 percent of the casualties.

The speech will represent the kickoff of a weeklong focus by Kerry on Iraq, during which he will make the case that "George W. Bush has lost all credibility on the issue," McAuliffe said.

5. He better hit hard because the window is closing.
If Kerry doesn't come into the debates being a clear and hopeful alternative to Bush then we have to worry about this election.

6. At this point
I say go for the bomb (maybe not a good choice of metaphors considering the circumstances). Take a stand. The Iraq war was a mistake as far as I can see. Very little good is coming out of it.

8. Iraq is the number one Issue.
Kerry did what Rove wanted..By saying Bush did the right thing in Iraq
he tells the public to vote for Bush...When the war goes badly Bush's poll numbers go down...The conventions and the Repug. gloss over of the war has given Bush a boost.
Hit hard on Bush's mistakes and bad leadership and what more, Bush's , Cheney's conflicts of interest in Iraq and Bush will go down. Kerry can defend his lousy Iraq vote by saying this is not what Bush promised and poor pre war planning lead to this disaster.
ALso, remind the GI's..Their military leadership was very skeptical of this war.

12. Was it necessary for them to annouce this?
Why is it the world has to know everything we are doing? Why give Rove and shrub time to prepare or am I missing something?

14. Yes
You have to announce it in advance or the media won't cover it...they otherwise wouldn't be interested in covering just another old Kerry speech.

18. It gives them time to prepare
There one thing in getting an off the cuff response if they were hit with it all at once. It's another if they have days to prepare detailed response.

Could be a difference of night and day. What the hell do I know.

Edited on Sun Sep-19-04 08:01 PM by faithnotgreed
i want the stations to show this live and uninterrupted. is it too much to ask that we are shown the "major speech" on crucial issues?

if the media would show us unfiltered speeches, they wouldnt get to keep saying kerry doesnt have a plan

yeah, i know.....

16. Watch out. I'm betting shrubco tries something to steal "media oxygen"
from this. Whether it's something stupid, like "little girl sign gate", in between, like "memo gate", or bigger.:scared: No way they can make lemonade out of these lemons.
