"If you can't find affordable health care, the government will provide you with a choice"
President Obama is right on track with what he promised.
If we can't afford our current health care, we can choose the more affordable government option.
He also talked about how providing a government choice will help to bring costs down of the big insurance companies.

Not sure why people here are spinning his speech to mean that he is forcing anyone to stay with their current plan if they can't afford it. I guess you only hear what you want to hear.

1. No one in the entire debate has
proposed anything that will bring costs down. Why are you making that up? All that has been discussed is slowing the rate of price growth. Profits must be maintained, and they will if this plan is adopted.

2. I'll feel more comfortable when we get some specifics on what is considered "affordable." n/t

3. Well, there was also this line...
"Let me be clear - it would only be an option for those who don't have insurance."

So I guess you're right - "you only hear what you want to hear."

5. And I worry that the "only be an option for those who don't have insurance" part could mean...
Only those who don't have insurance after the mandates he talked about went into effect... in other words, only those whom the insurance companies won't take.

Imagine how affordable that plan would be...

6. I see what you mean - that line needs to be clarified for sure. nt

8. I imagine the clarification will amount to whatever can be wrung out of the Senate.
And whatever can be wrought through the Senate... will be post facto the meaning. And that's what bothers me...

4. No, no: they refused to hear what they didn't want to hear: the PRESIDENT.

7. Who decides "affordable?" Based on what?
Is my $400/month plan affordable because I can scrape by and manage to pay it each month?
