I gotta say I loved Obama's non-reaction reaction to Wilson's outburst
He was SO cool. He let a few moments pass, almost waiting to see if the guy was going to say anything else and further make an ass of himself. He didn't try to gloss it over or keep going, which would have had everyone's reaction to the outburst sort of hovering over what he was going to say next.

He did that little thing with his elbow, almost like a shrug, I thought.

He kept his eyes on Wilson but didn't make a face of any sort. Stayed above it, didn't dignify it with any other response.

Then "It's not true" just set it aside and he went on.

Whatever we might think about the content of the speech, his cool reserve, always so in control of his demeanor -- a stark contrast to Wilson -- and his ability to handle a moment like that the way he did, is really remarkable, I think.

Just a perfect non-response response.

If Obama taught high school, there would be no shenanigans in his class!

37. I'm thinking any mature adult looking at the out-of-control kid in the grocery store...
and wondering if they act like that all the time, or did the kid not get a nap that day.

And you just can't walk over and smack 'em, unless you've got teabagger/winger credentials.

I know it's armchair psychiatry, but how much more evidence do we need to prove that conservatism is a mental disorder? A deadly mixture of prejudice, willful ignorance, hubris, rage and irrationality.... Geez, you'd think they'd have a pill for that.

At least while we were experiencing the Hell that was BushCo*, there were sane, logical and rational reasons for our anger. Their's is all pre-loaded.

4. I would have loved to see Joe Wilson's face during that stare down
Edited on Thu Sep-10-09 09:35 AM by lunatica
All three of them stared him down.

They all turned at the same time and actually looked through the faces to find the culprit. They all settled their gaze on one spot at the same time and they all kept looking at him. None of them was even aware that the other two had done the same thing.

It was like watching the Swan Lake ballet, or synchronized swimming. And it was caught in a photo and on tape. Ain't historical moments wunnerful?!

But I do wish someone would show a shot of Joe Wilson during that withering stare and just after it. Along with the faces of those sitting around him.

edited to make complete sentences.

silent stare, the pointing finger and the quiet and dignified yet strong, "It's not true."

17. I read that he sat down and started madly typing into has Blackberry. Either to find "proof" that
Pres. O was lying (Fox News and Free Republic don't count Joe), or to appear casual and that he didn't care. Whatever the reason, the guy is a complete ass. But then again, he's a Republican, so I suppose that's a given.

5. It is that cool which brings out the batshit craziness in Republicans.
They have nobody that can match Obama for coolness and it is just too much for them to take. That is the real reason for the coarseness of the debate going back to the general election of 2008 and continuing through the Town Hall meetings this summer.

9. True leadership at it's best was on display during that moment.
He gave a VERY commanding stare-down to little Joey Wilson who most likely was crying like a baby afterwards, what with the lightning SPEED in which he gave his apology last night. HAHAHAHA!

It's hard to have class in a situation where someone else is exhibiting no class at all.

Obama handled it very well.

16. that's my president.
if he had just ignored it, they would have gotten away with it. he made just enough note of it to make a point about what we are up against, without giving it one iota more weight than it deserved.
i wonder if the press would have made note of this ass, and all the other braying asses that were disrespecting the office and the setting.

20. Agree
He had a "Have you lost your damned mind?" expression.

I got the impression that Wilson didn't expect the president to know who said it and he must have felt two inches tall when the President turned and looked him dead in the face.

It was perfect.

I LOVED his look...that man is NOT going to put up with the batshit crazy from the RW...I LOVES me our PRESIDENT!

I was hoping that we would see a still photo of his look... I bet it has that same ring of "Everyone just Chill the Fuck OUT, I got this..."

Obama is a classy black man with education and finesse, and it drives them nuts... good!

Remember the time he took Lieberman aside in the senate and he looked like he was gonna pee his pants...?

Obama puts up with alot of shit, and there is nothing they can say about him he hasn't probably already heard being a son of a single mom and a smart black man in Harvard...
you think they would get under his skin that easily?

Our POTUS will chew him up and spit him out so fast it will make your head swim!

24. I still think Nancy Pelosi had the best reaction
She was visibly pissed and ready to knock a few heads last night. It was a quick reaction and she composed herself immediately after, but I saw the flash in her eye. I didn't know who the heckler was when it happened, but I knew he was going to get his ass handed back to him real soon.

26. It reminded me of our last Thanksgiving dinner
Dh's grandmother has alzheimer's and we brought her in from the nursing home to have thanksgiving dinner with the entire extended family. There are three tables set up of family members and a couple of friends, all quietly talking and some laughing. Dh's father lifts his wine glass up to propose a toast, and in the middle of his little speech great-grandma utters some very rude and inappropriate remarks. Rather than correct her, my father-in-law ignores her and moves on.

But see, Gigi has ALZ and no social constraints. Joe Wilson has bacon for brains but definitely knew better.

36. Sen inhofe said "the president was arrogant and even vindictive. "
"It was kind of the way he squinted his eyes and looked up. The look on his face,'' the Oklahoma Republican said. "I had not seen that before.''

Inhofe, who said he was sitting close to Obama, said he noticed the change right after another lawmaker yelled out "You lie.''
"It was right after that that I saw a change in the voice level and that challenging type of approach,'' he said.

Inhofe singled out one particular line in Obama's speech in which the president said those who misrepresent what is in the reform package will be called out.
He said those words and the way the president delivered them were almost defiant. "That doesn't sell,'' Inhofe said. "I think he made really a mistake on that.''

That is what he said Thursday but right after the speech he described the speech with "superb'' and "eloquence" Oh the difference a day makes.

And we should listen to him because he showed his intelligence recently by saying in a town hall that Obama was destroying everything good about America, disarming the military and waiting to let terrorist free on American soil.
