Republican opposition to Obama is based on racism |
|
Consider this: would the Republicans in Congress have heckled the President, texted messages, held protest signs, and walked out of the House floor during a speech to a joint session of Congress if that President had been white, even a white liberal? I seriously doubt it.
What is at play here is the old fashion racism. The one that holds people of colour to be inherently inferior to white people. These Republicans are the spiritual successors to the old Southern segregationists that for decades blackmailed the Democratic Party into silence and inaction when it came to segregation. These are the de facto offspring of those that opposed every piece of civil rights legislation introduced in Congress. These are the same sort of people that voted against the 1965 Civil Rights Act a generation ago, and have opposed the 14th Amendment since it was ratified at the end of the Civil War.
Their blatant display of disrespect for the President is essentially a manifestation of their disgust, and fear, that the Presidency is no longer in the hands of a good old white boy.
Whatever reasons they may give as to their opposition to President Obama, the unspoken reason is that they are freaking out about having this black man in the White House.

1. They did worse for Clinton...during his state of the union addresses |
|
many refused to stand when he entered...never had that been done befroe, and never since.
Yeah, there's racism involved, but it's not the entire story...insanity plays a role.

3. Tx you for your posts ~ |

The way they treated Clinton was horrible and they didn't treat Carter any better.
Yes, Obama is Black and millions elected him anyway. That speaks volumes for the HOPE for our country.
Isn't the age for the new voters in the 35 years or younger range. This segment of the population did not grow up to think like this -- some maybe, but not most.
4 years from now they will think that those of us over 50 are ancient and don't have a clue.

7. It is one thing to critique policies, quite another to engage in ad hominen attacks |
|
We still attack Bill Clinton for Plan Colombia, keeping SOA open, DOMA, and DADT, and rightly so! Those were policies of his that have brought untold misery to Latin America and to LGBTs.

What's left of the GOP is clearly the nuts. Racist to the core. Homophobic to the core. Xenophobic to the core.
I'm more worried about our own party now becoming the darling of the corporations. Tom Daschle seems to be everywhere these days.

9. And now, the same people who brought you today's Republican Party have come for us. |
|
They may be called DLC,Blue Dogs, etc, but this is what we can look forward to if we don't recognize what's happening.
The Dem Party is moving more and more to the right, progressives are thrown under the bus as soon as our votes are counted, and the right (they are NOT moderates) is wined, dined, and catered to.
Take a good look at the repubs. They're the future of the dems if we aren't careful.
