Jimmy Carter is a class act, and a beacon of humanity.
I read this LBN story posted by DUer KBlagburn about Jody Powell's passing.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x4058936

The linked story contains the usual obit story about a decent man who was Jimmy Carters longtime friend, advisor and White House press secretary.

In the last paragraph there is this description of an act of a genuine human being.

Dale Leibach, a longtime friend and business associate since their days in the Carter White House, said the ex-president went to a nursing home where Powell's mother lives to tell her of her son's death before she heard it on the news.

A simple but large act of consideration and kindness. Bless this dear man.

1. Very nice. No surprise.
Jimmy Carter isn't perfect. But he is basically a class act, and may him and Rosalyn continue to grace us with their presence for many years to come.

4. President Carter is a first rate human being
Rest in peace Jody Powell. So sad that Powell's mother lived to see her son die. It's very hard for a parent to outlive a child. My condolences to the Powell family.

5. Even though his administration was one of the worst ever, this man
will always be a great President to me. He's what I think a Christian should be.

6. That was very classy.
I'm sure Powell's mom appreciated his thoughtful gesture.

11. True gentlemen are up against it in this country
We have a fatal attraction to bullies and rogues.

I'll always admire Carter. His post-presidency reminded a lot of us why we were Democrats at a time when the party was being routed nationally. While Reagan was giving away the store to the angry rich, Jimmy was building homes in poor neighborhoods and traveling around the world to promote free and fair elections.
