4. Obama might watch what he says when around journalists or anyone else |
|
Just saying..
There's a time and place for everything and when the President of the United States is in public he belong to that public 100%. Everything he says is relevant.
Having said that, I'm sure he understands that now.

5. He did not say it "in public"... |
|
...he said it OFF THE RECORD in an interview by a (presumably) responsible journalistic organization. There is a long-standing custom in journalism to specify whether remarks are on the record or off the record. When the interviewee says it's off the record, it is NOT to be used or publicized.
Your notion that the President didn't know how to behave around journalists, but "...he understands that now"... Puhleeze. How many years now has President Obama been dealing with reporters? Don't you think he knows the rules?
The one who needs to gain some understanding is Terry Moran. Maybe, once the network finds out that a lot of their best "gets" don't want him as the interviewer, well then there will be consequences for the asshat. One can always hope.

6. That is what needs to happen. Ostracize those in the media failing to follow ethics. |
|
And be true journalists and reporters. Not the ET or Nancy Grace types.

7. I worked in public relations for more than a decade... |
|
...and when you look at a reporter and say, "This is off the record"...it would be egregious for the reporter to put that information in a story.
I often said, "This is off the record" and not once was I violated. I worked with all of the heavyweights in print and television--pitching hundreds of stories. Even reporters from some of the smaller dailies followed this cardinal rule of journalism. You just don't do this.
It's like breaking an oath.
What blows me away, is that Moran destroyed his professional credibility to report a stupid remark that Obama said about Kanye West. How stupid. If Moran had violated "off the record" to report some earth-shattering comment--at least this would have made sense.

10. +1. Don't know what this is all about, but if Obama said something to Moran and it was specified |
|
that it was "off the record" then Moran should be fired for breaching this basic tenant of journalism.
His producers/editors should have never have let him broadcast it, if he did indeed share this information with him beforehand.
While he might stay on the air, Moran will never be given WH access again. What a dolt.

...rather, he Tweeted it. The Tweet was later removed, but not before the damage was done.
I almost could have forgiven him the slip, given how fast it was removed, except for his editorial comment: "How Presidential of him!" -- he totally gave away his agenda with that remark and I hope that Democrats simply refuse to be interviewed by him at all because of it.

16. I'm saying Obama needs to pass on saying anything OFF THE RECORD |
|
Edited on Tue Sep-15-09 01:49 PM by lunatica
That's what I mean by "in public"
I repeat. I'm sure Obama understand that now. He strikes me as the kind of person who doesn't get burned twice doing the same thing.
And I agree, Terry Moran is the idiot and I hope he never gets anyone to trust him again. But my point is Obama shouldn't trust anyone either. Not for the next four or 8 years at least. Unless he wants it to be leaked.

|
What I meant to say is that this is an experience that he will learn to keep his mouth shut rather than say anything "off the record". That's why I said he probably knows this already. Obama is nobody's fool.

Interesting how that works out. Now there will be plenty of dumbass Republicans who won't be able to claim that Obama would side with Kanye out of "black solidarity" or some shit.

12. ABCs Terry Moran Tweeted an off the record remark from Obama that stated |
|
Kanye West was a jackass. Moran then followed that up with "Now THAT'S Presidential!"
The Tweet was removed about an hour later, but by then the damage was done.
