Are there ANY legitimate progressive primary candidates capable of beating Lincoln in AR? |
|
Edited on Tue Sep-29-09 05:21 PM by brentspeak
At this point in American history, when Wall St. and Corporate American have screwed over every working person in the nation (especially in Wall-Mart/Arkansas), it just doesn't make sense that corporate politicians like Lincoln remain popular enough to get reelected (not to mention get elected in the first place). There has to be some truly progressive Democrat somewhere in AR who can defeat Lincoln in a primary and then go on to beat the GOP challenger in the election.

2. Are we supposed to be afraid of them or something? |
|
We want someone to challenge Lincoln in the primary. Someone who supports real health insurance reform. That means a public option. Lincoln has just endangered Democratic control of the Senate, and for that, she needs to face the music.

to some right winger. Doesn't seem like it would end up being all that different. And yes I know it's not just all about health care, but if there is one thing the Democrats should come together on it should be health care.
Lincoln, Baucus and Conrad can kiss my progressive ass.

8. uh, no, dear. there isn't a progressive on the horizon in Arkansas |
|
who can credibly offer up a primary challenge to Lincoln. A progressive in Arkansas is about as likely to win a Senate seat as a conservative is in Vermont.
Inform yourself.

12. Bill Clinton was about as progressive as you can get in Arkansas I guess |
|
That is the problem with wanting Dem control of the Senate...we give up staying pure. Rethugs have pretty much rid themselves of moderates in their party and the party got smaller. There are some areas where we should have real progressives that we do not but Montana, Nebraska, Louisiana, and Arkansas are all more conservative states. The issue is not primaries then but educating the public. Of course, people are stupid...as K.O. so eloquently stated not to recently. America is in danger from stupidity.

14. Even if a progressive candidate were to beat Lincoln in the primaries, |
|
the seat would more than likely go to a Republican in the general. Arkansas is a very conservative state and it's surprising to me that both of our Senators and 3 out of 4 of our Representatives are Democrats.

16. Wes Clark, but I very much doubt he would run. |
|
Clark has strong opinions and ideals but he spent a lifetime winning fights through team work. He will not personally tear apart the Arkansas Democratic Party by challanging an incumbent Democratic Senator there. And I suspect he now believes he has served his nation well enough for long enough not to reenter the meat grinder again, causing more ruptures with long time friends, at this stage of his life.

18. Nope..and at this point I don't really care whether she wins or not... |
|
She is a Republican in practice....Republicans are in defacto control of the Senate. At this point I would be in favor of not supporting people like Lincoln even if it means losing administrative "control" of the Senate - which is all it is. Beter to have an honest and effective opposition than be weak and timid while in control...

21. My relatives in Arkansas are very frustrated. |
|
My advice to them is to just not vote for Lincoln, and if that means losing control of the Senate, then chalk it up to Karma.
