Publisher of Consumer Reports jumps into fight over health care - launches ad supporting Obama plan.

New Player in Health Care Reform Fight

Here's an interesting development in the health care reform battle: Consumers Union, the publisher of Consumer Reports, jumps into the fight with an advertisement backing President Obama's plan.

Said President Jim Guest: "You may wonder why we are injecting ourselves so publicly into a heated debate that has generated an enormous amount of concern and confusion... We are in the business of providing information and advice that helps consumers. We don't make campaign contributions. We don't endorse candidates. And we don't care who gets the credit for fixing the problems with health care -- we just need them fixed. Doing nothing about health care is not a solution."

1. I like Consumer Reports and am a subscriber. They do not accept advertising either...
....they seem to be an organization with integrity - something rare these days.

2. There'll be a conservative backlash among their membership
And loud ending of memberships. Probably a minority, though, albeit a very loud minority.

3. You're probably right
They deserve credit for sticking to their mission, even if it's controversial.

8. No there won't be.
Maybe a few people, sure, but do you really think any of those rank-and-file teabaggers and Klansmen read anything, let alone Consumer Reports? Sure, we all know Sarah Palin reads "all of them" thar magazines, but she's obviously an exception to the rule. :eyes: Seriously, these are the folks who LOVE the status quo. If a Ford was good enough for their grandpappy, it's good enough for them--no matter how many times it breaks down! (For example.) They aren't going to do research to find out if it's actually a good car.

4. Bless Consumer Reports'
Heart! America needs all those who are for it to stand up for the Real Health Care Reform now.

9. I've been a member of that union for quite a while
but this is the first time I'm considering being "proud" of them. They are good eggs.

10. I didn't hear him endorsing Obama's plan.
First off, Obama doesn't have a plan.

In the video, all he said was that healthcare costs too much, and people were one pink slip or major illness away from losing their coverage, and that this problem must be fixed. He said nothing about Obama's non-existent plan.
