18. Google!
Needless to say, the artist does not seem to appreciate the raw sex appeal these two men have like I do. Beau looks like he's about 65 in that drawing lol.

5. See the face of a child who doesn't want to ever have their father leave for an extended period.
Just think, 9yrs in Afghanistan... 7 in Iraq... How many children have had to wait... or have never gotten back their mom or dad.. War.. doesn't make sense ever. Rich men playing war games on a table far from the reality of the ground.

6. You know, you got me thinking. I wonder if Beau was instrumental at all in
Joe's reluctance to send more troops to Afghanistan. I know he'd been over zillions of times, talked to the Generals and the enlisted personnel, but maybe Beau told him things others couldn't or wouldn't...

9. gateley - I have been thinking the same thing too.
But I've been thinking that maybe it's because he knows what it's like to have a son in a war zone.

You have a real good point...maybe Beau opened Joe's eyes to what happens in the inside.

13. Could be -- first hand knowing how it feels to have your child in a war, especially
since I (my opinion) think Joe feels the whole thing was BS to begin with...

11. Maybe. He was in the JAG unit.. but wasn't Beau in Iraq? Anyway, its all
a racket.. Both sides lied into it by the rich men running the world.

12. Yeah, he was in Iraq, but I bet he could tell just how futile it was that we were
there and, by extension, Afghanistan. And yes, he was JAG, but I can't help but think the people he was representing told him the unvarnished truths -- something the Command or enlisted folks might not tell a Senator/VP.

Just a thought...

What matters is that Joe is one of those arguing against expansion in Afghanistan, and I think Obama will give his opinion serious consideration.

15. There's no reason to drop more military than there are Afghans.
As soon as it appears that we are trying to occupy their country and kill innocents; is the time that we lose support.. Afghanistan is a country that White men threw lines around... What happens in one place is completely diff. than another region. Kind of like Iraq.. but much less infrastructure. In some regions, just building a school and providing some support in economics will make a friend for life and no militants will be welcome. But who are we fighting.. Taliban weren't the people we were after.. they were sitting in charge when we got there.

8. I was talking to my sister the other night on the phone
and we were discussing war. I started reciting the song "War, what is it good for" that was recorded by Edwin Starr in 1970. She just got real quiet and I asked her if something was wrong. She said there wasn't she was just listening to me talk. I cracked up because she had never heard the song and thought I was making it up spontaneously. I explained where the words came from and to be fair to her in 1970 she was busy with two little boys while I was involved in the happenings of the time. It shows how much three years and varying lifestyles/ideals can make a difference.
