So what would have happened if the President had not gone to the IOC?
The reaction of the right to Rio winning the Olympics was all to predictable - no matter what the President would have done.

Stupid Right wing talking point as a result of going:-

Why did Obama fail to bring the IOC to Chicago?

Over $50 million spent for Olympics presentation when Chicago’s crime scene is currently horrific, the internal politics are seriously corrupt, and from what I’m hearing on CNN Obama’s presentation was a clunker. Corporate, dull, poorly executed.

We never stood a chance as anyone clued in to the politics of the IOC knew. Rio and Spain were the favorites from the get go.

Obama used poor judgement to go without understanding the dynamics. Chicago is hardly the joyous youth quake that we see from Rio. Brazil will be challenged no doubt regarding security and infrastructure. More importantly Obama had far better ways of spending his capital. Afghanistan. Healthcare, where he’s been MIA.

I am watching Obama’s naive lack of experience, combined with considerable cluelessness and hubris.

He needs to get off TV and begin to engage in handling our real problems. The ambivalence we see from Obama on heavy lifting issues is not heartening.</blockquote>

Stupid Right Wing Talking Point if he had not gone

Why did Obama fail Chicago?

Over $50 million spent for Olympics presentation when Chicago’s crime scene is currently horrific, the Olympics would have gotten that City much needed investment, but Obama did not care.

We never stood a chance as anyone clued in to the politics of the IOC knew. Rio and Spain were the favorites from the get go. Obama could have used that much vaunted influence.

Obama used poor judgement because he failed to support his own people. His own city.

I am watching Obama’s naive lack of experience, combined with considerable cluelessness and hubris.

He needs to get off TV and begin to engage in handling our real problems. This would have bought jobs to Americans. It is a disgrace that he could not have taken some time out of his schedule to support America. He really shows how much he does not care about Americans. The ambivalence we see from Obama is not heartening.</blockquote>

(Rethug spelling mistakes left in deliberately).

No matter how this was played, the Republicans were going to laugh at Chicago "failing". What they prove themselves to be is hypocrites, who laugh at America. What they need to be reminded of though is that while they were laughing, the President was out there supporting the Country.

3. "He gets an opportunity to create jobs and he turns his back on America"
I hate that he went, but he would've got hammered either way.

4. Tis Better To Have Tried And Lost Then To Never Try At All......
He did the right thing by going. You can't win them all. He would have been criticized more if he didn't go.

The funny thing is - even Bush supported the Chicago bid.

5. No way he'd let Chicago down.
It's a one-time shot that may not come up again for a while. A lot of people wanted it. Lots of Chicagoans and other Illinoisans have been supporting him for years now. If he thought his presence would help them get something they wanted and needed he'd absolutely do it. That's his character.

It's not a personal thing. The IOC is just being fair to everybody. Congrats to Rio!

6. Indeed.
He went out there and battled for America, win or lose. Isn't that the job of President - to support your Country?

7. We weren't getting the games no matter what
I suspected that last night.

Why would any international body reward America with an Olympic Games after we have sent the world into a World wide recession possibly depression and have engaged in two wars where we invaded other nations. Just because they like the new leader a little more than the last. For all they know with America's past 8 years this could be a short term thing.

9. Well America has had the games more than any other Nation on Earth.

So it seems reasonable that any American bid would not just hav to be better than any where elses but significantly better.
