I just saw him on Hardball - WOW!

He provides the sort of fearless populism so many have longed for.

Not only is he an amazing weapon against the Republicans, he is a potent counterpoint to the centrist go along to get along DLC, and dare I say it, President Obama himself. He is making nuance and bi-partisanship look pretty old hat.

I think he will create enemies on both sides of the aisle, but I am loving him! I'm sure the oppo research is swinging into high gear, but I would bet on him.

1. I hope he puts the fear of god in the lily-livered Dems. We need to move this party
back into spine and cojone territory.

5. Or a Mr. Smith. Grayson is a 1st term Rep who doesn't really seem to care if he gets re-elected
Boy, did he pop up at the right moment!

He is so confident knowing that he has the truth on his side and that he is standing for so many of us who yearned for a knight against the entrenched interests.

4. He is as breath of fresh air....
...and I just love him for not holding back and trying to be nice to those SOB RWs who could not care less if someone is in pain, injured or dying if helping might take $$$$ from the fucking insurance giants.

8. He will therefore be IGNORED by Democratic leadership
Edited on Fri Oct-02-09 10:17 PM by midnight armadillo
Clearly he's too upsetting to the insurance & pharma lobbyists, so he will be completely ignored by the Democratic leadership and most significant Dems until the media loses interest in Grayson.

Then everything will go back to normal and Tom Daschle, Max Baucus, and the rest of the corrupt Democrats carefully derailing health care reform can get back to serious business.

10. Grayson doesn't seem like a guy that can be neutered
He's very rebellious and people like that are hard to control. The Dem leadership may just leave him alone until he cools down. No need trying to poke and prod him while he's in the mood he's in. They don't want him to change his focus and attack centrist Dems. Has anyone noticed Grayson hasn't been attacking Conserva-Dems who have also been blocking reform?

12. Actually, it's been the frame on this board for a long time
Edited on Sun Oct-04-09 01:08 PM by Phoebe Loosinhouse
and in a lot of other places as well.

It was never picked up by anyone of note in a manner to make it count.

I think the study that Grayson quotes was only done 2 weeks ago and is great because it attempts to quantify the numbers in a more accurate fashion than has been done before. 40,000 deaths a year attributed to lack of insurance/care is no small potatoes.

So many politicians and regular people seem to have blinders on, and seem to think that this issue is small and peripheral and of importance but to just a few unfortunate people. 40,000 deaths a year is a NATIONAL DISGRACE!!!!

15. That's a point Obama has stressed often.
He did in his address to Congress:

One man from Illinois lost his coverage in the middle of chemotherapy because his insurer found that he hadn't reported gallstones that he didn't even know about. They delayed his treatment, and he died because of it. Another woman from Texas was about to get a double mastectomy when her insurance company canceled her policy because she forgot to declare a case of acne. By the time she had her insurance reinstated, her breast cancer had more than doubled in size. That is heart-breaking, it is wrong, and no one should be treated that way in the United States of America. (Applause.)

<...>

Now, this is the plan I'm proposing. It's a plan that incorporates ideas from many of the people in this room tonight -- Democrats and Republicans. And I will continue to seek common ground in the weeks ahead. If you come to me with a serious set of proposals, I will be there to listen. My door is always open.

But know this: I will not waste time with those who have made the calculation that it's better politics to kill this plan than to improve it. (Applause.) I won't stand by while the special interests use the same old tactics to keep things exactly the way they are. If you misrepresent what's in this plan, we will call you out. (Applause.) And I will not -- and I will not accept the status quo as a solution. Not this time. Not now.

Everyone in this room knows what will happen if we do nothing. Our deficit will grow. More families will go bankrupt. More businesses will close. More Americans will lose their coverage when they are sick and need it the most. And more will die as a result. We know these things to be true.

That is why we cannot fail. Because there are too many Americans counting on us to succeed -- the ones who suffer silently, and the ones who shared their stories with us at town halls, in e-mails, and in letters.
