'Diageo ends link with US TV host but Tesco stays' (UK Independent, Oct 6)
Edited on Mon Oct-05-09 08:40 PM by Jackeens
The drinks giant Diageo last night became the latest major UK company to pull its adverts from the controversial Fox News commentator Glenn Beck's show.

The decision by the maker of Guinness and Johnnie Walker follows a similar move by grocer Waitrose which stopped advertising on the outspoken television presenter's talk show that is broadcast on the Sky TV platform in Britain. The exit of both companies piles pressure on Tesco. It last night refused to cancel its involvement with his show.

Kellogg's, the cereal maker, is also still promoting its brands on the show in the UK, but said a decision on its future involvement was imminent.

A Diageo spokesman said: "We have ceased advertising on the show." As The Independent reported two weeks ago, some of America's biggest companies have pulled their advertising as anger over some of the statements made by Mr Beck has mounted..

:-)

I feel an email to Tesco coming on, and a polite reminder that if they don't follow Diageo and Waitrose's example they can kiss my weekly-Tesco-grocery-shopping ass goodbye.

1. Grand for Diageo(first I've heard of them)!..
And, I've been interested in further Kellogg news bc they were the first ones to drop Michael Phelps when a pic of him turned up ..smoking a bong.

Lots of peeps dropped Kellogg's at that time and I didn't have to bc I haven't bought any since way last century.

2. I hate cornflakes.
They're perfectly suited:

Tastless, artificial and something you're forced to consume by your crazy Granny.

Meanwhile, Diageo was formed in 1997 from the merger of Guinness plc and Grand Metropolitan plc (a UK-based company operating hotels, holiday centres, entertainment centres, public houses and casinos) - thank you Wikipedia.

I remember there being uproar in Ireland at the time, some folk feared this was a British conspiracy to change the Guinness recipe.

Unfortunately it still tastes the same:

3. That's right, the corn flakes drop Michael
Phelps and stick with beck. If they stay with beck there should be another campaign to boycott them from our grocery lists.
