My biggest problem with Mc Chrystal's London comments... |
|
Edited on Tue Oct-06-09 12:34 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
My biggest problem with Mc Chrystal's London comments is not that a military man publicly deviated from the President.
It is easy to imagine situations where some level of free public discourse by military leaders on military matters, short of out-right MacArthur-style insubordination, is desirable.
I wish some professional military had been a tad more open in expressing reservations about Iraq. An informed public ought to know if there are serious military objections to policy since military leaders do have potentially valuable perspectives. (Most of Hitlers generals were not Nazis. They were career military deferring to national politics in an exageration of "good soldier" mode. Not that I'm calling Bush Hitler or anything... :eyes: )
My big problem with Mc Chrystal's London comments is that this shit tends to happen only when a Democrat is President!
When a Republican is President the chain of command is a fetish.
When a Democrat is President the chain of command is a "serving suggestion."
The partisan culture within the military must be rooted out.

1. The partisan culture AND the religious culture should be rooted out. |
|
They are largely connected.
You make a good point.

2. Yeap, I'd make sure McChrystal was minimized and just had to follow orders. This isn't ... |
|
...some random comment he was making or some suggestion he had already made known.
My trust needle would tend to tilt towards "don't" when folk do crap like he did

9. Actually, what tends to happen under someone like Bush is that |
|
he just fires everyone (Gen. Shinseki, Gen. Peter Pace, etc.) who doesn't agree with him, with help from the MSM (as in when Gen. John Batiste who was fired by CBS).

His public propagandizing is outstepping the authority of his position.
