Charlie Cook sounds like an idiot right now... |

Saying the AP poll is an outlier because it's a bit higher than the current Gallup Poll.
Now compare the two:
Gallup today: 51-42 AP: 56-39
Is there really that big of a difference between the two? The greatest difference is within the APPROVAL. But the DISAPPROVAL is almost identical (only 3 points off).
So I don't see how the AP poll is much of an outlier. It would be, I guess, if the Gallup Poll had Obama's approval/disapproval at 50-49.
But it doesn't.

2. It's as if people believe every poll to be exactly the same... |

And it just isn't going to happen.
So obviously you can say one poll is an outlier if it doesn't fit the narrative.
Gallup I trust. I think Pres. Obama's disapproval is around 35-40% - where it's been for a while now.
Oddly, that's where the AP poll has his disapproval. Now the approval in both polls might be off a bit, but it's not dramatically off.
If the AP poll had come out and had his approval rating at 65-30, then yeah, I'd say it was an outlier.
But these seem pretty damn close for two separate polls.
