Rush Limbaugh: "[S]crew you Miss Sebelius," I Won't Take The H1N1 Vaccine
Edited on Fri Oct-09-09 11:15 AM by TomCADem
Is this part of the Republican health plan? By urging his listeners to disregard HHS Kathleen Sebelius's efforts to get Americans, particularly those people most susceptible to the virus, to to take the vaccine, are Republicans trying to get people to simply die quickly?

If Rush were a moderate or a liberal, advertisers would abandone him. Instead, Rush has so much corporate money that he is attempting to buy the St. Louis Rams.

http://www.examiner.com/x-5738-Political-Buzz-Examiner~y2009m10d7-VIDEO--Rush-Limbuagh-says-he-will-not-take-H1N1-vaccine-because-Kathleen-Sebelius-told-him-to

###

In response to the urgings of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to take the vaccine Limbaugh bluntly says "screw you Miss Sebelius." Limbaugh then goes on to say he will not take the vaccine simply because she says he "must" take it.

Secretary Sebelius certainly has been pushing the vaccine in recent interviews. Today she tried to quelm worries about the vaccine by saying it is made the same way as flu vaccines in the past and that it is "safe and secure." In addition Sebelius has "strongly urged" parents to have their kids take the vaccine as she states young people are at higher risk from the H1N1 virus. However there is no record of Sebellius telling people they "must take" the vaccine. Various headlines on Sebelius contain this reference but I have found no actual quote of that reference Instead the various quotes from Sebelious seem to "urge" people to take the vaccine but no demands are made.

1. I have no plans to get it.
But that's my personal decision based on the fact that I don't get the regular flu shot either, and I don't think H1N1 is any worse than any other flu. However, I never got the impression that Sebelius was forcing it on anybody. He's just looking for something else to bitch about, per usual.

30. Oh yes, the garbage being put out there regarding
the swine flu vaccination is pathetic. What is even more pathetic is the number of people that believe the garbage.

Oh, by the way, the gospel according to the far far outside the loopers is that the vaccination will secretly inject a chip in you therefore becoming the mark of the beast.

they believe that, they really do.

I work in a hospital and we will be the first ones to be offered the vaccination. I intend to get it.

41. Yes, of course, just like when Obama spoke to kids in school on TV
he was turning their kids into Obamatrons, making them resist their parents' beliefs, and use logic instead of emotion.

If I were a dumb-ass freak who couldn't think logically, I sure would NOT want my 10 year old to think logically about studying hard and finishing school, and going as far as s/he could with this education thing.

So, no, if I were a dumb-ass freak who couldn't respect the modern science of immunology, I wouldn't want anyone except a charmin or a priest/exorcist to cure me or my children.

Of course, I also wonder who can vote for Obama and vote AGAINST protecting themselves and the friends/family/ children/co-workers from a flu which does, indeed, kill people.

55. You will not get the H1N1 flu shot?
Now if you come down with the flu and the symptoms become obvious you could have exposed several other people with the possibility that they could become terribly sick and even possibly die.

I hope that since you are so little concerned with your own health that you will not jeopardize others and remain in seclusion until the threat is over. It reminds me of the story told by one Rabbi of a passenger on a boat that was going to drill a hole under his seat and when others objected he said that it was his right to which the Rabbi replied but the water that will come will drown us all. Yes, I suppose that you have a right to refuse to take the shot, but you don't have the right to put those who are forced to associate with you in danger.

67. Believe me, if I have the flu
I'm not going anywhere. Second, I haven't had the flu in over ten years, and the last time I did have it, it was very minor. In all that time, I haven't had a single flu shot. I work from home, so I have no worry about exposing employees to my illnesses, and my kids get the shot so they are protected. But of course, "superior" people such as yourself need to give a lecture on things like this to make yourself feel more knowledgeable and important, even though you don't know a damn thing about me. But then again, it's because you don't know me that you assume I haven't already considered the things that you've so "helpfully" spouted off. I'm a very healthy individual with strong immunity. There are people who need that shot far more than I do.

88. You might want to read The Great Influenza by John M. Barry.
Excellent book and very interesting.

But the point is that the Great Flu killed indirectly, and those who were young and strong with powerful immune responses were the most succeptible to death from pneumonia. The flu produces such a strong response that the body fills up with it's own fluid and you suffocate.

Not that say this flu is like that - but that's the worry. The Great Flu started out weak as well, then mutated to a much more virulent strain.

Just sayin'. Do what you want.

100. Again, I am not in one of the perceived risk groups. They are already saying
that there might not even be enough for everybody. They are going to give it to those who have priority. My kids will be getting it. I will not be. I mentioned this below, but I should add that the fact that the shot contains egg proteins concerns me because of a reaction I had to a tuberculosis skin test a couple years ago. The doctor's told me it was possibly due to a sensitivity the egg proteins in the shot. I'm not going to inject something like this into my body if it's going to cause me more problems. I've stayed healthy for most of my life without flu shots while I've seen people get sick every damn year who do get them. That may be flawed logic at play, but I'm not exactly convinced that this vaccine (or any seasonal flu vaccine) is panacea.

104. This flu isn't really so weak.
Already as many children have died as in a regular flu season and the flu season hasn't begun yet. One third of those children were healthy when they came down with it. Any flu, even the worst, can be "mild" depending on who it affects and their immune system reacts at the time and whether they develop a bacterial infection on top of the flu. In my neck of the woods one pregnant woman and her unborn baby died, and another pregnant woman was in intensive care for a month and lost her unborn baby.

This strain of flu is "strong" in its ability to spread rapidly. The real consequences of it may not be known until NEXT year. Let's just hope that it doesn't mutate into something more powerful.

if i get sick and pass it on, then that's just to bad. Its called the flu and that's how it works. There is NO evidence that it is more deadly than the standard flu which kills 30K people every year. If that frightens you, stay at home.

93. H1N1 *IS* worse than prior seasonal flu, for certain risk groups.
Seasonal flu usually hits the elderly harder than H1N1, but pregnant women, children and young adults are being hit harder (dying, or wind up in the ICU) by H1N1.

99. As I said, my kids are getting the shot. I'm not being flippant.
I am not in any of the risk groups. I'm 30 years old, I work in the home, and I have good immunity. I have always taken precautions and haven't caught any flu strain in over 10 years. I don't appreciate the lectures on my own health as if I haven't weighed the risks and the benefits of getting this particular vaccine. I should add that one thing that adds to my concern was an adverse reaction I had to a tuberculosis skin test when I was in a nurse's aide class a couple years ago. The doctor said it was because I might have an egg protein allergy. People with such allergies are not recommended to take flu shots because they are incubated in eggs. It's one of the other things that gives me pause when I ask myself if this vaccine is the right choice for me.

102. You seem like you you're making an educated choice.
That's the best thing one can ask from another.

As far as cost/benefit on this batch, it's still unknown, and won't be known, until thousands do, or don't, die or get dangerously sick.

Which is why discussions on the topic are difficult.

If Rush and his listeners don't get the vaccine, then my family and I can get it that much more quickly. One of my kids always goes right to a nebulizer when he gets the common cold (always croup - every time!). If this keeps it out of my house, I"m all over it. So please, Rush, refuse it. And talk your listeners into refusing it. Maybe then my family won't have to wait much longer.

Doubt he cares about anyone else. It's all entertainment - not to my liking but for those who can't think, it's the word. Perhaps he is a secretly anti-Republican and wants his followers to get sick and find out their health care isn't all that good. Ah - another conspiracy raises its ugly head. So much conjecture, so little time. (sarcasm alert)

77. My friend who has been renovating our home
Edited on Sun Oct-11-09 01:43 PM by Hansel
has a 4 year old boy who got it a couple of months ago. He spent a week in the hospital and nearly died. He, his wife and daughter had to get the flu shot immediately and move out of the house. He was order by the doctor by recommendation of the health department to super clean (very expensive) or rip out all of the carpet, flumigate the house and have all of the draperies and bedding specially cleaned (also very expensive).

The daughter and wife also got sick but getting the shot quickly reduced the symptoms. He did not get sick. They are all health "nuts" and eats very good diets and exercise.

They had a premie baby waiting to come home from the hospital but this was delayed until the house was completely fumigated and they had installed new floors and drapery.

The flu spread around my work and nearly every person who had moved here from a foreign nation and the younger workers got sick. Some other co-workers, one of which is the man working on my home, had children who got sick but got shots right away and most were not hospitalized. Our workplace also had to be fumigated and people were sent home for a day to clean it out completely. I work for a major corporation so this involved hundreds of people in that building.

It was pretty bad there for awhile and I have never seen that many people get sick that fast. I did not get it because I was not at work for a month due to another unrelated illness. There was a plus 50% absence rate at one point.

You did not hear about any of this on the news because of the fear of creating a panic because this was an epidemic and because clinics and hospitals were already being inundated. Anyone who was at our work or around anyone at our work who had any symptom of illness at all were encouraged to go to the doctor but not to panic. They soon stopped testing for H1N1 and just starting treating for it so they have no idea how many real cases they had.

H1N1 is nothing to fool around with and is a much more epidemic once it strikes than most know. I just don't understand why they are keeping these incidences such a secret. H1N1 is not just like any other flu.

65. H1N1 Vaccine
I know I'm somewhat late to this particular discussion but here's my input - my 93 year old mother has been in/out of hospitals since August. We've had some very interesting experiences regarding this "great so-called health care" system we have in the U.S - but that's for another discussion. As it relates to this vaccine...everyone of her doctor's has said the same thing...is is NOT necessary to get the swine flu vaccine unless you are under age 24...or pregnant or exposed to young people on a regular basis, such as lots of grandchildren, teachers, parents of youngsters, etc. Reason given is that because of a previous swine flu outbreak in the 80's those of us over age 25 or so have developed a bit of an immunity to it and that's why you see this particular flu outbreak occurring on college campuses and in schools. It's the younger ages (along with pregnant women) for whom this flu will most likely infect. We have all gotten our regular flu shots because my mother lives with us and it's more for her protection. But we have no intention of taking the H1N1. It should be made available to most susceptible among us and this "debate" about whether or not it's safe, etc is just ridiculous - JMHO, of course. As for Rush Limbaugh and his ilk? They can just fuck off - and if the Rams are dumb enough to allow this pile of shit to be part of their ownership, well they'll learn the hard way that a racist pig has no place in the NFL...you'd think they'd have realized that when his fat ass was thrown off NFL Countdown on ESPN. But as long as he allowed a forum for his trash talk and filthy lies, and makes millions from it and no one bothers to stop it, I guess his money is just as acceptable as anyone else - very sad, indeed. BTW...thanks for allowing me to vent a little - I feel better!

There is unlikely to be enough for all who want it. And Limbaugh as a man in his late 50s, without, as far as I know, particular health risk factors, would be in a low priority group anyway.

Edited on Mon Oct-12-09 11:25 PM by Garam_Masala
I never put anything foreign in my blood stream. And I rarely ever get
sick. Washing hands with soap is far more effective than taking flu shots.
However I did come down with flu right after taking a cruise in Mexico
last spring. It was probably swine flu since it was going wild in Mexico
at that time. I probably caught it from a day long shopping trip in
Peurto Vallarta where I must have touched a million things and could not
wash hands with soap until getting back on ship.
The flu lasted only 3 days and was mild. Benefits of being old haha!

I also take daily vitamins, don't smoke and walk 5 miles 5 times a week.
May explain why I feel and look 15 years younger.
