Another GOP senator open to health care overhaul

Now we have them committing..time for Maine DU'ers to lead the way, (and I am here to help anyway I can) to let these Senators know, the Public Option is really the only way we can effectively guarantee cost containment through competition. I will write, tell my brothers story..but we get them here, we start pushing for PO. Write, call, cajole, explain.. whatever it takes.

But we do NOT give in or give up.

WASHINGTON – A second Republican senator signaled Wednesday she's open to voting for sweeping health care legislation this year, putting President Barack Obama closer to a historic achievement that has eluded generations of Democratic leaders.

But Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, told The Associated Press that the bill approved Tuesday by the Finance Committee needs substantial improvements to make coverage more affordable, contain costs, and protect Medicare. Nevertheless, she joined her Maine GOP colleague Sen. Olympia Snowe in endorsing the goal of far-reaching changes.

1. Sounds about like the same record that Snowe is playing
"Public option sucks, but I want to be on board on health care reform in at least a token fashion because half of my constituents are very liberal." I mean... give us a break. Offer the President a real alternative to the public option and then we can consider what you have to say. Collins admits that the "trigger" would simply be a delay to the public option, and therefor she's against it.

2. You know, I think we can pull those Maine Senators into our
arena, if we can show them, how having the public option is what really gives us competition that will drive down costs for all of us in the long run.

We got them this far, now is the time to bombard them with facts stats, and true life stories.

We need the Public Option

3. As long as they will vote for cloture
I'm not really concerned with how they feel about the public option.
