3:50 pm ET - President Obama signs Executive Order & observes Diwali “Festival of Lights”

From an earlier article:

Obama to join Diwali celebrations at White House

Washington:: US President Barack Obama will personally join members of the Asian American community to celebrate Diwali, 'the festival of lights', at the White House next week.

"At the East Room ceremony, the president will observe Diwali, or the Festival of Lights, a holiday celebrated across faiths on October 14," the White House announced Friday.

While it was former president George W Bush, who started the tradition of celebrating Diwali at the White House, he never personally participated in the celebrations, leaving his top administration officials to grace the occasion.

Also Diwali was not celebrated in the main White House, but in a building attached to the it. The East Room is usually used for ceremonial occasions. It was here that Bush signed the enabling law for the India-US civil nuclear deal.

The White House also announced that Obama will also sign an Executive Order Oct 14 restoring the White House Advisory Commission and the Interagency Working Group to address the issues concerning the Asian American and Pacific Islander community.

1. So did this event take place today?

(Not the signing, the actual ceremony)

I cant find any time for it on the President's schedule and I dont know WHEN he'd fit it in on such a busy day? Or was it happening when you made your post?

Maybe there will be some good pictures at least.

2. Clio, it just got pulled from the Live Stream schedule on the
WH site! It was supposed to start at 3:50 but they started streaming Sebelius instead. I'm not sure what happened, I'll check around.

8. Well I guess not many people cared too much about the Asian Community.
Congrats Asian Community for getting the advisory board in check. Representation needs to be met everywhere. Thanks President Obama.
