Joe Lieberman is RW on foreign policy but socially liber... aw, fuck it. |

All those tedious stories from the Lamont/Lieberman primary about Lieberman in the civil rights trenches seem pretty comical from today's perspective. The guy was probably okay in 1965 but so were a lot of folks in their youth.
Now he is categorically against health reform. So I guess we can drop the "Dem except on military issues" fantasy.
Since he has 0% chance of being elected again I guess he is just lining up his big-$$$ post-Senate payday. (And earning the respect of the sort of neo-nazis he hangs with now.)
If Americans can see a doctor the terrorists win!

1. We tried primarying him out - it didn't work. |
|
Not much else you can do about him other than take away his committee assignments, which quite possibly might happen if he votes against us for health care.

8. There is something the state of Connecticut can do. |
|
In most states, once you lose a primary, you cannot run in the general election for that same job, even if you create your own fictional, one man party.
If Connecticut had that law, Ned Lamont would be Senator right now.

11. It did work--and if CT had a Sore Loser Law, he'd be Gonzo and Lamont |
|
would be the Senator from CT, not him.

3. I'm not a purist as some on here are. I support any measure that gets the right thing done. |

Some people are conservativeon some issues and while on others they are as liberal as the day is long. And others, you can't tell. If good stuff will come from this ---- I don't care where he really stands to be honest. I won't help with his campaign...I jut want the right thing done. We've waited long enough, wouldn't you say?
Edited to add this last bit. I can't stand Graham to save my life and he has lied against the President several times. But he's teamed up with Kerry for Climate change. If we're guaranteeing climate change bills happen and meaningful one...do you really care?!

4. And yet I (and probably most of us here) voted for this man.... |
|
.... to be a heatbeat away from the Presidency.
Mindblowing isnt it?

7. What a disaster would that have been! Consider 9-11 if Gore had been allowed to take office. |
|
Sure, a President Gore would not have dismissed the May 2001 warning about bin Laden planning to attack America, but I doubt that 9-11 would have been preventable considering the situation in 2001.
The Republicans would have done what the Democrats did not do, which is to assign blame for 9-11. It is quite possible they would have blamed Gore for 9-11, and gotten him impeached, which means Holy Joe would have become President.
Or if nothing like that had happened, Vice President Lieberman would have been the Democratic nominee for 2008.
The horrors!

5. Yeah... I would have been willing to (grudgingly) accept him if he was still truly socially liberal |
|
But between his antics last election and his stance on health care reform, it's very clear that he's willing to turn his back on all things liberal.

Oh Joe Lieberman, what the hell happened to you? He was not always such a complete idiot. Or maybe he was and I just have a vague memory of him being okay once because I was only 12 when he was first elected to the Senate... I voted for Lamont last time around. Joe is in some trouble if Blumenthal (the CT AG) decides to run against him.

17. If Republicans do well in 2010 mid-term elections I predict... |
|
Lieberman will then formally switch sides and will minimally caucus with Republicans in the Senate. I think he will then conclude that he just might have a shot at reelection if he runs as a Republican in CT, hoping to hold on to enough conservative Democratic voters to just put him over the top.
