Kay Hutchenson's comments on the Perry, Willingham issue. Disgusting.
“As hard as Rick Perry’s office and his campaign may try to divert from the issue, this is not about one man or one case. The issue is Rick Perry’s heavy-handed politicization of a process and Commission established by the legislature to provide critical oversight. First, Rick Perry delayed the formation of the Texas Forensic Science Commission, then he tried to ensure it didn’t have funding and when all else failed, he fired everyone he could. The only thing Rick Perry’s actions have accomplished is giving liberals an argument to discredit the death penalty. Kay Bailey Hutchison is a steadfast supporter of the death penalty, voted to reinstate it when she served in the Texas House and believes we should never do anything to create a cloud of controversy over it with actions that look like a cover-up.”

She’s not concerned that an innocent man might have been killed by the state. She’s concerned that evil liberals might get in the way of killing more people.

2. She's seen as moderate but she's a partisan hack
My son interned in DC where his job was to monitor the GOP Senators' comments. He said that DeMint and Hutchenson were the worst because all they did was trash the dems. Every time either of them spoke, whatever the issue, it was all about bashing the dems, all the time.

My son is pretty moderate, or was at the time, and he came away from the experience disgusted by those two. I've been listening more since then (2006) and he's right. This comment is the end all be all of party bashing.

3. yeah, they truly consider the DP sacred...
some years back, we had a 20+ year death row inmate cleared of a rape/murder by DNA evidence and the RWers flooded the letters section of the paper howling about how much of a travesty it was that this convict escape justice...their mindset seemed to be "Hell, someone had to pay for the crime, and if it wasn't him, then who??"

then again, this is the Virginia justice system, where even when blacks are innocent they are guilty, and when they are guilty, the sentence is NEVER harsh enough...
