The Veterans Health Care Budget Reform and Transparency Act, a bill introduced by U.S. Sen. Daniel Akaka that guarantees a timely and predictable flow of funding for Veterans Affairs medical care, will be signed into law this morning by President Barack Obama.

Akaka, D-Hawaii, and Veterans Affairs secretary Eric Shinseki will join Obama in the East Room of the White House for the signing ceremony.
The Senate unanimously passed the act last week.
The legislation would secure funding for veterans' health care one year in advance of the regular appropriations process. It would ensure transparency by requiring public reports and audits on VA's funding forecasting.
Currently, VA is funded year-by-year, a process which Akaka said has resulted in late funding in 20 of the past 23 years.
