Creigh Deeds running against Cap and Trade Bill?
http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/1009/Deeds_runs_against_that_cap_and_trade_bill.html

This after his comments about a public option? Why should Democrats in VA be excited to go out and vote for this guy?

6. McDonnell is a religious fanatic. He is against abortion in cases of rape,
he is against birth control for married adults, he is against women in the work place and the public schools. How can you suggest that Deeds is similar. Get your head out of your.....

5. Worst. Candidate. Ever.
Seriously, I'd rather run the Democratic equivalent of Alan Keyes, whomever that would be, than see this guy running for anything serious again. Why would he even do this, considering that it's a federal government issue, not a state one?

7. Why?
Let McDonnell win and we'll all see why.

So what, Deeds dosen't agree with Cap and Trade or he endorses an opt out plan for the public option!!

Where does it say that Democratic gubernatorial candidates have to march in lock step with the powers that be in D.C.

Aren't we Democrats the very same ones that claim that marching in lock step with the party is a Republican trait? Now you want to be just like them?

Me, I'm voting for Deeds. If he wins we can deal with the whole cap and trade, and the opt out with a Democratic governor

But, if McDonnell wins, cap and trade and the public option are definitely DOA, for the next 6 years.

8. I'm of the opinion I won't vote for him. If I'm going to end up with Republican policies
I'd rather get them from a Republican.

Now this could be a little snapshot of the feelings that will lead to some other losses for Dems. I'd rather be shafted by a Republican I can hold accountable and oppose their views than to be shafted by a Republican masquerading as a Dem.

The DLC does not realize the kind of animosity they are provoking in progressives.

I think Deeds is going to go down big. I'd be concerned, but as I've stated before, since our govs are limited to one term, the state runs despite them rather than because of them.

I WOULD have voted for Deeds but his comments of opting out of the public option completely iced him as far as I am concerned.

12. Arrgghhhh. All Democratic candidates in VA are Moderate/Conservative
Look at Mark Warner, Chuck Robb, Jim Webb, etc, etc. Despite their conservative tendencies they always sided with the Democrats when it counted. Look at Deeds' stances besides the public option and I promise that you'll like what you see. Your vote is important. Please show up and vote.

9. Unrec'ed for slamming a Democratic candidate right before the election.
Deeds might not be the most polished candidate but would rather have used car salesman lying to you than someone who will do a good job? Do a little research on McDonnell before you spread RW crap around here.

16. OK, here's my question for you
First I want to address "RW crap". I have voted straight Democratic ticket in every single election since 1980. Every primary. Every local race. Every special race. I have NEVER not voted for the Democrat and yet here we have Creigh Deeds having me consider it for the first time in 30 years.

Here is my question - What POSSIBLE reason could Creigh Deeds have for saying he would consider opting out of a public option? The public option is supposed to bring increased choice and competition and to ultimately lower prices. What does Creigh Deeds have against that? Virginia is a hotbed of "government run" healthcare - would he consider opting out of the VA hospitals that dot our landscape? Medicare? Medicaid? Then why the public option in national healthcare reform? Seriously, what is his stated reason?

I think his only reason can be to blur the line between him and his Republican opponent. Someone who can not stand up for what is the obviously correct choice in both a common sense manner and a fiscal manner because they are afraid of alienating potential moderate/reactionary/uninformed voters is not much of a leader or a thinker in my opinion.

I'm supposed to vote for him and hope he is just being a charleton in order to get moderate Republican votes and will turn out to do the right thing in the long run? And if he doesn't, well at least I knew what I was getting in the first place? He makes no sense to me. I see it being analogous to being a resident of Montana trying to decide if I wanted to re-elect Baucus. I KNOW I would not cast a vote for him (Baucus).

Healthcare is a very seminal issue in determing who is for the people and who is not for the people.

18. Why should Democrats in VA be excited to go out and vote for this guy?
because we know the potential consequences of a GOP sweep...I know its an uphill battle, since the GOP for the first time in a generation actually has a strong, well-placed candidate in the state running a pretty smart race, but we've got to tough it out until the end...

and fwiw Kaine and to a lesser extent Warner had some sharp conservative views on some issues...as much as I would want someone to the left of Michael Moore to run for office here, i just don't see it happening in the near future...

22. In 30+ years of voting, I've voted against more candidates
than I've voted for - Deeds is the lesser of the two evils. I'm not "excited to go out and vote for this guy" - I'm going to vote against McDonnell. Do I like this? No, but I accept that in VA in 2009 many democratic candidates would've been considered republicans 20 years ago.

and the alternative is a Republican who chose to be educated at Pat Robertson's Regent University.

I will be voting for Deeds. Even if he is mostly "Blue Dog" he'll be easier to influence than a Republican like McDonnell.
