Armitage says Iraqi insurgents trying to influence elections
http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=topNews&storyID=6265597

WARSAW (Reuters) - U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage
accused Iraqi insurgents on Friday of engaging in a cynical bid to
undermine President Bush ahead of the U.S. presidential election in
November.

"They're trying to influence the election against Mr. Bush," he said
during a tour of eastern and central Europe. "It's quite obvious that they would like to raise the cost to President Bush. I think this is their cynical effort to do that and to somehow influence our elections, and they will fail," Armitage told Reuters.

---
Now, why would the Iraqi insurgents care WHO wins the US election? Is Armitage trying to pass off the increasing insurgency in Iraq as some kind of Democratic campaign tactic? This guy looks like a warhead and evidently thinks like one, too.

1. Yes, they are cynically blowing themselves up

In order to make Bush lose. Uh huh. Does he promise that they'll be stop if Bush wins? Sort like Cheney said, elect us or we'll kill you?

Somehow, this doesn't remind me of the flowers they were going to throw. I guess Rove just doesn't have the reach in Iraq that he does here.

4. This is the new GOP talking point
Tim Russert is being spoonfed this new GOP talking point. Atrios points it out:

New Talking Point

Now it isn't just the terra ists, but insurgents in Iraq who are trying to influence our election by killing people. I bet they sit around watching the Sabbath Gasbags before they start shooting, political junkies as they are.

According to a commenter, pol, none other than Tim Russert is saying these things to:

I just heard Timmy Russert interviewed by our area CBS affiliate. They wanted to know his take on the polls, and why Gallup is so out of line with the others this week. Timmy said, he didn't know, that CW is you have to look at each party's internal polling, and if you do, Bush is ahead by 5-6 points. I know that was true for last week, but I'm highly sceptical about it now. Has anyone found any internal polling data?

By the way, the interviewers asked Timmy, since everything is a mess in Iraq and word is seeping out, would not Russert's claim possibly be in question. Russert gave some garbage that it is believed that the insurgency in Iraq is possibly intentionally aimed at getting Bush defeated!

So, that's where we stand. All the bad people in the world have united with a common goal of electing John Kerry. Anything bad that happens, anywhere, anytime, by anybody, happens because somebody is trying to deny George Bush his throne.

6. Does that mean Armitage thinks they'll all quit if Kerry is elected

Looks like he caught the same illogic bug that Cheney has.

7. Tell me if I've got this right...If Kerry wins...
...then it's "mission accomplished" for the insurgents. They stop fighting, and the US soldiers all get to go home. Those MONSTERS!

9. Be careful-- That's their new talking point...
It is slowly creeping its way into the mainstream language. Somebody working for the Kerry campaign or the DNC should stop this one before it's allowed to continue. There are a million ways to counter it and I think DUers should add their voices to how it can be done.

12. More misleading information
This same administration miscalculated the insurgency by suggesting they were a bunch of Saddam loyalists and a bunch of thugs

Will the American people ever hold this administration accountable?
