Bayh: I Can Imagine Reid's Bill Failing
Two items to keep in mind: Bayh's wife Susan is a corporate whore that works for Wellpoint, a major health insurer. Bayh has received generous donations from health insurers and Big Pharma (Lilly). Bayh is a shill for the industry!

If there is anything to be grateful to Harry Reid, is that by putting the public option in play, he is flushing out all the cockroaches, Republican and Democrat alike (Lieberman belongs to the Treason Party).

Bayh: I Can Imagine Reid's Bill Failing

The temperature taking of Senate moderates continues. Sen. Evan Bayh (D-IN) doesn't think of the public option as a high-priority issue. But I asked him whether, in conversations with his fellow moderates, he's gotten the sense that a health care bill with an opt-out public option might get snagged up before it comes to the floor.

He was pretty blunt. "Yeah, I think that's possible." His own chief concern, he says, is the deficit. "But for me, if there are things in here that would substantially explode the deficit in the out years, I would feel so strongly about that, that it would be difficult for me to vote go to the bill without that having been corrected, because once you've done that you've given up, really, your ability to have a significant impact on the outcome."

Bayh is opposed to single payer and public option. Months ago I posted a letter I got from him in response to my concerns about health reform. I posted his letter in the Indiana Forum.

1. So if the CBO
publishes findings that the public option would lower the deficit over 10 years would he support it or do you think he's simply bullshiting everyone?

5. Bayh is bullshitting everyone!
Bayh is worse than Lugar. On the lead up to Iraq War Resolution vote, we had antiwar people come to Lugar and Bayh's offices to petition them to oppose the rush to war. Lugar's people met with the group and listened politely. Bayh's people called the SWAT team.

2. I have visions of Bayh walking downtown Indy with bags of cash
he's picked up from Lilly and Wellpoint. What does his wife get? Like 2 mill/year from Wellpoint?
He is my kids senator so I tell them all the time to hammer his butt.
I liked his dad.

14. I have visions of Schrödinger's cat
Again, props to the DU'er who first posited this:

Schrödinger's Cat: A cat, along with a flask containing a poison, is placed in a sealed box shielded against environmentally induced quantum decoherence. If an internal Geiger counter detects radiation, the flask is shattered, releasing the poison that kills the cat. The Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics implies that after a while, the cat is simultaneously alive and dead. Yet, when we look in the box, we see the cat either alive or dead, not a mixture of alive and dead.
-------------

It's a beauty analogy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schr%C3%B6dinger%27s_cat

That doesn't mean I think it's likely.

6. This May Be Why President Obama Was Concerned About Reid
With a trigger, you could implement an immediate public option in those states that do not have affordable health care, and you would have gotten Collins and Snowe, and the conservadems would have followed. Now, you have Lieberman ready to sabotage health care reform by allowing it to go the floor, then voting against cloture, thus locking up the bill in the Senate.

Jeezus these Corporate Democrat types make me ill.

I'd rather people like Bayh become Republicans and let some real progressive Democrats run against them.

15. Here comes Bayh on cue, w/his usual big bucket of useless under his arm.
Bayh: "....if there are things in here that would substantially explode the deficit in the out years, I would feel so strongly about that, that it would be difficult for me to vote go to the bill...."

The president has already said he will not sign a bill that adds to the deficit one dime. So now here comes Bayh -- who said nary a word against blank checks for Bush -- with a big bucket of useless under his arm in the form of now being a concern troll that the bill will "substantially explode the deficit."

Useless.

18. Bayh was an early cheerleader for the war in Iraq
He called the SWAT team when some antiwar activists came to Bayh's office to petition for peace. Yep, the creepy Indianapolis Police Department SWAT team.

Any Senator or Congress person who votes against the Public Option needs to give up their healthcare now.

21. UPDATE: Bayh to filibuster health bill
Mr. Bayh also said he would oppose a motion to proceed to the bill in its current form if a provision that would impose $40 billion in fees on the medical-device industry over 10 years isn’t eased.

“Without that, they would definitely not have had my support,” said Mr. Bayh. Medical-device makers have a big presence in his home state.

24. If HCR fails, I hope the repubs vote 100% against it so they get the political blame.
There will be some Democratic votes against it as well, some because they buy the repub BS and some because HCR doesn't go far enough, but if the vast majority of NO votes are repubs, they will get the political blame for no action on HCR.
