If Bush gets 4 mores years |
|
1. Iran and Syria will be invaded. 2. The draft will be reinstated. 3. Tax cuts for the wealthy will be permanent. 4. Abortion will be outlawed by permanently conservative Supreme Court. 5. Social Security will be privatized. 6. Patriot Act will replace the Constitution. 7. Jobless claims will skyrocket, people will have no choice but to work for minimum wage (Neocon's original plan) 8. Police will have the power to arrest and jail immigrants with no warrant.
This is just the beginning. Democracy will die a quick death in America.

Grieving mothers will be able to be arrested without being told why, and without having their rights read to them, just because they voice a dissenting opinion. http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/09/17/bush.protester/index.html

I vigorously disagree with pretty much everything W has done (ever). But recent second terms are usually pretty disappointing and generally scandal ridden, regardless of who gets elected. Witness Clinton (Lewinsky), Reagan (Iran/Contra), Nixon (Watergate), Johnson (Vietnam).
I'm working for the Democratic ticket, voting the Democratic ticket, and fear that the greatest progressive accomplishments of the last century (Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, Head Start, accessible college education, a broad middle class) will be further undone.
But democracy is stronger then George W. Bush. It will not die "a quick death in America."

6. What do I do with all my Chimpie supporting relatives? |
|
They'll be running around saying, "Now things will be OK, Bush is in for four more," and I'll feel like sneering at them for the next four years.
What the fuck are they so happy about?

8. This is totally OT, but this post reminded me of something |
|
I swear this post has given me the exact same feeling I had when I was growing up in the San Francisco bay area. It's a ratcheting down syndrome. I used to play in open fields with old barns. Then I became old enough to drive. I would go to the beach, and sit. But suddenly a wave of people began to arrive. The fields disappeared to pavement and 7-11's, and houses. And cars clogged the roads. I was devistated. I still have not recovered, nearly forty years later. To watch something so beautiful turn to shit, was infuriating.
I see a similarity in American politics. People have become so complacent, due to the lack of threats to their livelyhood, that they abandoned attention to the country's needs. As a result, vermin like those in the administration now, and in the recent past, have been allowed free reign to do as they please.
I don't think it's over, either. People see, now, but they are so consumed with need, that they don't pay the attention that is required. And as interest rates go up, and inflation increases, we will see even less attention paid to politics.
I watched the Bay Area burn, and now America.

10. Good list and one we can use on fence sitters... |

...but, we've got to get rid of 4, 6 and 8. They're too far out there.
We've got to be realistic here. Abortion is never going to be made illegal again and most know that. Our constitution if protected by even the farthers right wing wackos and our country is built on immigration.
This is a great post for around here, to get the blood flowing, but I think it could do WONDERS on the outside if brought back down to reality a bit. I'm going to print it out and use parts of it as handouts!! Well done!!

but if we pay close attention, 4, 6 and 8 are already happening.
One more justice on the Supreme Court appointed by Bush and abortion might very well be outlawed. The Patriot Act has taken over some important civil right protections guaranteed by our Constitution. And Arab American are being arrested without warrants and labeled enemy-combatants.
