Jersey Girls @ Salon: "President Bush thwarted our attempts at every turn"
http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2004/09/15/widows/index.html

Sept. 15, 2004 | WASHINGTON -- Over the last three years, the group of 9/11 widows turned activists dubbed the "Jersey Girls" have become a fixture on the Washington political scene. Some of them are Republicans, others Democrats or independents. But they are all determined to hold official Washington accountable for the attacks that killed their husbands and nearly 3,000 others. They have held news conferences, lobbied members of Congress, pored over documents, and forced the White House to accept an independent commission to investigate the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Along the way, the women have learned about coverups, obfuscation, political cowardice, deceptions and the dangers of eschewing international alliances for a go-it-alone foreign policy. And their conclusion: For the sake of the country's future, John Kerry must replace George W. Bush.

Gathering at the National Press Club in Washington on Tuesday, the widows announced their endorsement of the Massachusetts Democrat for president, a move made "in good conscience and from our hearts," as former Bush supporter Kristen Breitweiser told the news cameras. "In the three years since 9/11, I could never have imagined I would be here today, disappointed in the person I voted for, for president," she said. Added fellow Jersey Girl Patty Casazza: "It was President Bush who thwarted our attempts at every turn."

The widows said they endorsed Kerry because three years of studying the facts has convinced them he will do a better job than Bush at protecting the nation. "This was not an easy decision to make. We agonized over this," said Monica Gabrielle of West Haven, Conn., an honorary Jersey Girl. "We have always been very careful about not being partisan. We have always attempted to uncover the truth. We have always looked for the greater good." Still, the women said they expect to be trashed as partisan hacks.

"We were joking amongst ourselves yesterday that we should come down here geared up in football pads and helmets, because we were anticipating personal attacks," Breitweiser said. "Some other 9/11 family members have supported President Bush, and I think we have always been respectful of anyone's points of view. And I hope that going forward, the debate and dialogue will be about the issues and it will be respectful and lively. But most important, respectful."

1. These ladies are right up there with the police and
firefighters - all heroes of 9/11. No one could look Kristin in the eye and vote for Bush - no one.

3. Yeah it was on CNN yesterday
I didn't see it but others did.

If that picture of Breitweiser doesn't break your heart...my God.. I don't want to live in a country that re-elects that worthless man, I really don't. It sickens me.

7. It will be similar to Ron Reagan Jr.
There's no way that the neocons can say everything they want to say about Ron Reagan Jr., to the DEGREE they want to say it, because he DOES have that Gipper blood flowing through his veins. They can disagree with him, but there is a line that they will NEVER cross, and man-o-man, do they WANT to cross it.

Similarly, 9/11 has been Bush's ticket to ride, so the stuff that's being said about these ladies behind closed doors at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. would probably curl your hair (or straighten it if it's already curled)...but in public, if Bush says anything at all, he'll salute their right to free speech or something equally stirring and patriotic.

17. Oh, they always think of something...
Didn't Rush Windbag say something about several folks who lost family and friends in 9/11 and that had gathered to oppose Bush?

I remember he said something about them being "so angry" that they had misdirected their anger at the President. Or they had gone crazy from their grief. Or some such bullshit.

It makes me ill to think that Repubs can use 9/11 to justify their actions and then at the same time discredit others by saying that it has driven them insane with anger and grief. It's horrifying. And deeply disturbing.

14. According to the group 911widows for truth...
these women were never actually married to a 9/11 victim..and therefore should not be credible.

8. Yes. and today Judy Woof-Woof had another 911 widow who
supports Bush. She kept her on for quite a while and all the while gossiping about what the jersey girl on her show yesterday had said and what did this widow believe about what the other one had said. The widow who was on J. Woof-Woof's show today looked like she was reading her answers from some talking points paper.

Machiavelli sold his soul to the devil. Judy Woof-Woof has too.

13. A sixth woman

Five widows and a sixth woman who was badly
injured in the attack on the Pentagon endorsed Kerry.

Most of the reasons cited by the six women were
rooted in their bitter disappointment and anger over
President Bush's actions since the attacks of 2001,
which killed nearly 3,000 people.

15. I'll say it again...
She breaks my heart every time I see her! She has the saddest lost look every single time I see her. She just looks so tired and I wish that she didn't have to fight so hard. I can't wait till the day when President Kerry can do the fighting for her and she can rest. Then maybe she can start to get her life back and once again find joy in life.

That picture made me cry. The look on her face is the epitome of what Shrub has done to all of us!

16. Kick for the Jersey Girls
they are all rock solid against an appointed lying madman.

Like all loss suffered under this deserter b*sh, their loss is senseless.

But everlasting.

Never be silent again, b*sh and his ilk are despicable madmen.
