Kerry is doing MUCH better these days
I've been reading ABCNews' The Note on a daily basis and am seeing a huge shift in the media's coverage of Kerry. Reporters at the Globe, NYTimes, and the Wash. Post are actually beginning to write about his message and the reaction of supporters as opposed to his flaundering campaign. Crowds are growing everywhere he goes and his stump speech continues to get better.

Here's a recent poll from SurveyUSA showing Kerry just one point behind Gephardt. With gaining momentum, I see him coming in second.

He'll be receiving a key endorsement today in Iowa - lets hope its Leonard Boswell.

Peace.

16. Kerry also endorsed by Iowa Attorney General today as well

(snip)

At a roundtable discussion with workers in Davenport, Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller today endorsed John Kerry for President. Tom Miller was the top vote-getter among those seeking state office in 2002.

“John Kerry has the character, skill and judgment to win a national election for President and perform in a way that will make us all proud."

8. Honestly, this is good news for Clark

I had no idea that Undecided was so low in Iowa, or that the vote was being essentially split among Dean, Kerry, Gephardt, and Edwards, all of whom are over 15% in the latest polling point shown here, even among certain voters.

This poll makes it look like noone is truly going to win Iowa.

25. Actually it hurts Clark.
Look at the polls in NH, most of Clark's recent support has come at the hands of people leaving Kerry's camp for Clark. Dean doesn't need to win big in Iowa to have a big push in NH, being he wasn't even picked to even come close to winning the start early on (January of 2003). Now if Kerry has a good showing in Iowa, it'll re-spark his campaign and many of his past supporters may jump back on the Kerry train. They do that and Clark's support drops; Kerry over takes Clark and wins #2 in NH. Dean's lead however expands because of the Iowa bump. Clark can't finish 3rd in NH - it'll leave him with one leg left. With Dean and Kerry taking up most of the media coverage, Clark loses a few souther primaries and it becomes a Dean/Kerry race. But of course Dean is more liked in the south (polls back this up) and since he'll probably finish first in SC if he finishes first in Iowa and NH, he'll beat out Kerry to win the nomination.

Clark needs to hope Kerry doesn't have a strong showing in Iowa or he could be hurt BADLY in NH. Go check the daily tracking polls; Clark's lead has come NOT from the undecided votes, but those who've jumped the Kerry ship.

9. Kerry is Gaining the Big MO
I agree that Kerry is doing better and better. Finally his stump speech is getting to be very effective. His TV ads in Iowa are excellent. If he can place decently in Iowa, he'll have the Big MO going into New Hampshire and beyond.

and what's been going on in the past. Check out today's article in the NY Times for instance.
In a strange way, Kerry's summer doldrums may help him -- Americans love an underdog. Kerry will be the 'Comeback Kid' of '04.

and his actual record and inconsistencies until the last few weeks was NOT a good thing for the Democratic party. Most people still only know Dean's name, and can't recognize other candidates including Kerry.

20. I've wondered the same thing.
Maybe now that he's "the underdog" the strange American public will see him as more accessible. There may even be some sympathy: I don't want to argue back and forth on this, but a case can be made that in the very creation of the Clark candidacy so many Democratic players abandoned the stalwart Kerry the minute things got a bit slow. Some will argue it was justified, but some of us feel he was casually abandoned by his own party. Oh well, which candidate can really claim to represent the "heart and soul" of the party these days? It all looks pretty messy and weird to me and probably lots of others. Remember, front-runner Dean only has about 1/3 of his own party's vote right now on any given day. I think many supporters of "the big 3" (Clark, Dean, Kerry, in polite non-confrontational alphabetical order!) may be covetously pondering where the supporters of the other 6 and indeed 8 would end up in the event of dropouts, and how that would set off other reactions and events. Hmmm... :eyes: . I keep trying to remember "It's a marathon, not a sprint". Hope no one exhausts themselves too early. Let's treat ourselves well. :smoke: :toast: :hippie:

Kerry will be the guest on Meet the Press on Sunday. He can do very well, and he should be able to pick up support.

15. Yes he is
And if he was SMART, he'd go after Clark in NH.

If Kerry can secure a second place in Iowa and then NH, he's still in the game.

If Clark beats him in NH, and he finishes third, he's done.

Kerry and Clark have an understanding, methinks. I hope it works out for the sake of the Dem party.

21. This article kicked ass yesterday
"...many supporters see in Mr. Kerry's height, silver mane and long, craggy face a candidate for Mount Rushmore. "Put a beard on him and he's Abraham Lincoln," a woman in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, said after meeting him.

In true John Kerry style:

"I declare the people of the United States emanciapted from the Bush evil empire! No longer will we suffer from the attacks on our rights, health, environment, education and everything else this last administration has FUCKED UP."

With Bush right there behind him!!! Dreams. *drool*
