How to appeal to Security Moms...
In the latest political shorthand Soccer Moms have morphed into Security Moms. Supposedly Soccer Moms were enamored with Clinton's sex appeal have been transformed into Security Moms enamored with Bush's "strength" as a leader defending the homeland.

The Kerry campaign needs to short circuit the whole "strong protector" meme of Bush's. They need to ask are we REALLY "safer" three years after 9/11 (as the Bushies claim)?

Let's dramatize a little. Arrange a to meet a container ship in close proximity to NYC. Get some cooperative harbor official to lead a tour. Ask pointed questions while standing in front of a sea of containers.

"How many containers come through here in a day? How many have been inspected? Has any security official checked to see if this container REALLY originated in Hamburg? Wouldn't YOU feel safer if containers were inspected and verified BEFORE they reached our shores? When was the last time that you saw a Homeland Security official?"

Introduce the Kerry/Edwards plan to inspect containers. Note that the Bushies have had three years to plug a security hole big enough to drive a ship through. Maybe even bring up the need to control the loose nukes of the x-USSR. Note that so many "suit case" nukes are missing. Maybe even tweak Bush by using the smoking gun/mushroom cloud image.

Now here's a nice little twist: outline how much maritime security $20 mil coul buy. Note that you voted FOR the $87 mil bill when the Iraqi's were going to REPAY us $20 mil. You voted against it when Bush insisted that we simply GIVE AWAY $20 mil.

Let's put Bush on the defensive.

Oh, yeah: nice work with the draft issue but you REALLY need to have Rahm Emmanuel, John Edwards and others making the case with EVIDENCE that the Bushies are considering re-starting the draft. Beat the drum hard on this one. It's got legs.

5. Kinda complicated....
How about just showing `em Bush sitting for minutes after being told the country was attacked, with an expression on his face that suggests that he's not sure if he should check his pants for wet spots before he stands up.

6. Last night Olberman
had a security expert on. They say TSA is highly unprofessional (new report reveals explosives can still be smuggled fairly easily through airport security), illegal aliens are penetrating U.S. borders in droves, etc. Expert says domestic security roughly the same as it was on 9/10/01.

If some terrorists take hostage a school near you there's a good chance it will be because Bush* squandered all the money on his private war in Iraq rather than using it to secure the homeland.

11. TSA is a joke.
Swabbing children's toys with chemicals, pulling the shoes off of old ladies in wheelchairs, and wanding middle-aged housewives does nothing to stop terrorism. A determined terrorist doesn't even need to smuggle explosives aboard an airliner. The airlines themselves provide many objects that would be handy terror tools.

I'm all for security as long as it's intelligently thought out. What we have now is largely bullshit.

12. Not to mention that airport employees can go around security.
In some airports, the only security an employee has to go through is a swipe of his/her ID badge.

7. Soccer Moms are nuts
And I don't mean that in a nice way.
Anytime I hear I have to deal with a soccer mom, I just cringe.

8. Kerry and Edwards should get on all the women friendly shows...
I imagine this is going to happen sooner or later, but it is better to happen sooner. Can all of you imagine Edwards on Oprah?

Then they have to start talking about all the issues that worry the women voters.

10. Bush uses 9/11...let's use it too:
Let's run ads directed to the "security moms":

1) Bush was warned on August 8,2001, that bin Laudin was about to attack...but did nothing...called no meetings ... and stayed on vacation.

2) Two of the three cells were under sueveillance by the Bush admin. in 2001, but not put on watch lists.

3)Mohammad Atta and Zacharis Massoui both went to flight school for seven months under Bush's watch but the Bush ignored FBI action memos.

15. I say give this issue to Edwards and let him run with it!
He has 2 little kids of his own, and can speak to these women form a very personal "risk" point of view! Of course, that BIG SMILE won't hurt either!!!
