Has Kerry stated a position on "Under God" in the Pledge? |
|
Since the topic has somehow miraculously reappeared on the horizon has Kerry weighed in on the subject?

2. Why not just publish a list of all the republican/neo-conservative.... |

...Christian Coalition/Freeper/right-wing ding dong issues that must run what 409 pages in the RNC campaign platform for the entire world to read so we can have other things that the world can scrutinize and decide whether or not the U.S. deserves to position and legitimate authority as leader of the free world? :wtf:

4. This is an issue that is about to come up in the Senate |
|
Kerry will have a vote on it. All I'm asking is has he made a statement about how he feels about this. I'm sure they will take his vote and run with it, unless of course he votes to go along with what I believe to be an Unconstitutional bill.

by FAR the best response to that I've ever heard!
I work in a school, and used to have to TAPE the pledge every single day, to run it on our TV station
can't tell you how SICK of it I got
I always tried to use versions that had little glitches in it
some good nosepicks, gang signs

take a stand back in the 1980's? But my memory could be faulty--Mass. people help us out. It seems as though something like this came up when Reagan was president.

9. Senator Kerry is a believer, I understand. |
|
He should be free to have a personal opinion in the matter.
Personally I can handle references to God, as these references stand for something else to me. It is sectarian beliefs being made into law (with penalties) that is the threshold (again for me). And I don't have to say God in the pledge if I don't care to... There are other words that sound the same.
A few words here or there don't rise to become a major issue with me, but that's just me. And I can respect other people's beliefs without having them. It is only when they try to force them on me that I have a problem. I don't see how having to say "God" once in a while is a big deal.
My God is a demanding one too. But He is tolerant.

of allegiance thing..from start to finish. It's an exercise in brainwashing. Last I heard, brainwashing is not a good thing..people should be able to reason things out on their own.
What does it accomplish?

16. Yes... and didn't care. |

It is a little ceremony not a rope.
Such little things we have to put up with in my opinion.
Holding any line is hard and one must choose his place and time. -- When penalties are spoken of, I get concerned.
Many things can be argued of as conserving the past, traditions and etc. I look to harm and good and fight each battle on its own... so as not to lose the war.
The flag stands for our nation, and I personally respect both -- the rest of the sentiments seem pretty unobjectionable.
"Francis Bellamy (1855 - 1931), a Baptist minister, wrote the original Pledge in August 1892. He was a Christian Socialist."
Seems like a sword with two edges to me.
Maybe we should insist that "equality" be put in like his (supposed) original intention.
Best.

13. I'd love to get "under god" out of the pledge |
|
Cause I'm so sick of religion in all its forms.
However, I understand that this is a ploy to trap Kerry, and so it won't bother me if he votes to keep it in there. All it does it make me more disgusted with the cynical and immoral so-called christian right.

14. What exactly is the Senate voting on? |
|
The devil in the details again, ya know. I happen to think Kerry's position should be "I think the words Under God should be kept in the pledge, but I believe the issue should be allowed to be reviewed by the SCOTUS to confirm it's constitutionality.
But I don't know how the bill in the Senate reads. Is it actually writing law?

that God has become such a political issue. Isn't God on our currency "In God we Trust?" Let's just ditch the song "God Bless America?"
Great way to sway from the real issues of today.
This whole God thing is really touchy with me because I see my beliefs being used.
This is a whole new topic. I am a catholic, I don't believe the hidden sexual abuse that occurred with the Catholic church is okay. I don't approve it. But, don't you find it strange, that after the Shrub administration came into their power all this came into light? After how many years? Why is this now coming out into the open? These things happened in the 70's. I find it strange in the year 2003/04 this is out in the open. There is something wrong with this picture. Isn't it strange that any sexual misconduct appears within the last few years? I don't okay this, but just find all this right wing crap.
I personally feel, the Shrubs are trying to get rid of all religions except their right wing stuff, just watch and listen to radio. How much of this right wing christianity is added.
My gosh, I've carried on here, I wonder if this will be accepted on your blog.

the power of the courts to decide Constitutional matters. It just happens that Religion is being used for this test.
