Should my girlfriend vote against Shrub... |
|
As an absentee in San Antonio TX, or in person here in Davis CA?
They are obviously a red state and a blue state, no contests, but is there any reason why she should choose one over the other?

2. Ah please have her vote in San Antonio |
|
we are really trying to send a message here. I don't think TX will go blue. BUT Gore got 39% of the vote in TX in 2000. If Kerry only gets 10% more than that (and I have no doubt he will-TX Dems are fired the hell up this time) then that's **49%**!!!!! That's uncomfortably close for reps and it will send a strong message.
EVERY vote we can get for Kerry in TX helps. Now if you were talking TX or Ohio, I'd definitely say Ohio. But since CA is likely to go blue anyway, let her voice be heard here, please!!!!

For the still-fresh trauma of the recall! :scared:
I hope this thread goes on for a while. I'll show it to her, of course, and let her decide for herself.
Maybe it will get her interested in jumping on DU now and again as well!

8. What are the local races |
|
showing?
We know TX will go Red and CA will go Blue but what is happening with local congressional races? I don't know who the Davis congresscritter is but if it's a tight race with a good chance of a Dem picking up a seat then I'd vote here in CA.
Same for TX. If she's registered in Bugman DeLay's district I'd do everything I could to unseat that bastard.

some places will tinker with the vote, you know that. Go with the method most likely to register her vote.

TX has more protest value but Cali's more likely to flip (a hundred to one instead of ten thousand to one)

While I'm sure Kerry will win there by a comfortable margin, there have been a few polls that have been way too close for comfort (with less than a 10 point lead). Plus, there was that whole recall thing...and I heard that there's been some screwy stuff with electronic voting there as well.
There's no chance in hell of winning TX.

14. If she can vote in TX in 2006, absolutely. |
|
The GOP is a one-trick pony named "Terminator". Once he gets term-limited or bored, there will be nobody to rise up through the ranks.
In Texas, however, there are a number of good reasons to stop the GOP in 2006. If they get smacked down after redistricting, it will be good for the Republic. I'd put our chances against Perry as better than our chances against the Gropinator. We also stand a good chance at winning a few statewide races, especially if guys like Stenholm and Frost lose their districts and decide to come to Austin.
Also, we need her vote if she's a resident in TX-28 for the primary. Henry Cuellar, a DINO whose last public office was held as a PERRY APPOINTEE, ran a Laredo vs. San Antonio campaign in which constituents magically popped up in water towers and in Cuellar's parents' house. On these "missed votes" he got several hundred extra votes to win a primary victory, one that was confirmed on a party-line vote in the Texas Supreme Court, over his mentor, Rep. Ciro Rodriguez (real D-TX).
TX-23 can also be a tight race, and at the very least it keeps Henry Bonilla pinned down in his own race.

17. She should consider other races she be voting for |
|
President isn't the only race going on. Look to see whether her vote will help with a local race or not, then decide. No matter where she votes for president, it won't make too much of an impact.

but I have to concur with the poster who said "look at the local races." Find out which Congressional Districts she can vote in and how close they are. We need to take back the house.
Vote straight Democrat! We have a GREAT guy (David Van Os) running for the Tx. Supreme court. We are working HARD to take this state back from the Rs and although realistically we won't go blue this year, WE CAN DO IT!!!!
