Protesters at Republican National Convention?
Edited on Fri Jan-09-04 05:33 PM by Jack_Dawson
I keep hearing that Dems are making big plans for the RNC. I've been told that the RNC protests are going to make the Iraq War protests look like a PTA meeting. Any truth to this?

Sounds fun!

1. I've never been to NYC,
I can't think of a better time to visit (and yell a lot). :)

Perhaps DU could organize a night of protest?

3. Yelling's fine.
If you want to do anything violent, stay home and destroy local businesses.

We've been through enough.

In NYC, we're really good at peaceful protest.

Make sure you are.

5. Protestors will be clubbed, gassed, and arrested. Stay home.
Protestors will be clubbed, gassed, and arrested.

And for what?

Most Americans hate protestors, unfortunately.

Why take a beating or get arrested when images of protestors will only hurt the Democrats with the middle-of-the-roaders who have the least ability to relate to protestors?

Stay home.

Edited on Fri Jan-09-04 05:55 PM by corporatewhore
There will be some "safe" marches just like there were some "safe" marches in miami that didnt result in arrests but they did have a police escort and arrested someone because he looked like an anarchist

If you do we'll kick your ass and arrest your ass.
Serious brown shirt shit.

I dunno if they can get away with that crap in NYC.
Jeb's not in charge there.

9. I have housing for people coming to NYC
Edited on Fri Jan-09-04 06:23 PM by tkulesa
I have a big ol' apartment on Staten Island (2 blocks from the Staten Island Ferry Terminal, right across the water from Manhattan) and room for at least 4 people. (Queen sized sofa bed, inflatable queen sized bed, extra twin sized bed, plus sleep bags.) Anyone who is coming in for the protesting should PM me.

I can't attend the protests because of limited mobility but I am a damned good cook and you can expect to be well fed.

Note: You would have to be willing to share space with 2 very friendly cats.

On Edit: Early, I know. But hey, some people are like me and plan things way in advance. I'll repost this offer again later too, when people seem to be making plans.

14. Wow! That's really cool
of you to offer. This is a glimpse folks, of the beauty part that is in store for us once we have a nominee. I'm telling you, it's going to be great taking down the shrub -- together.

13. Hate to say it, but will make us look bad
Realize what Republicans are doing- they are using New York City to leverage the memory of 9/11. America will remember the hurt from that day and there will be a rush of patriotism. And then there will be throngs of people outside saying things critical of the US (which may be true). It will look very, very bad. If we're going to protest, it has to be a in a way that respects the memories of those lost on 9/11 and criticizes the Iraq war- and it is a VERY hard thing to make a nuanced message through a mob of protestors whose message will be filtered and distorted by the corporate media.
