Edwards Says Bush Tax Plan as Dangerous as Socialism
Edwards Says Bush Will Eliminate Tax Deductions for Home Mortgages, Charity, and Health Care; Says Bush Tax Plan as Dangerous as Socialism, Will Further Endanger Working Families and Middle Class

Edwards blasted Bush’s economic policies and tax agenda and said the Bush Tax Plan will eliminate the tax deduction for home mortgages, charity, and health care. Edwards outlined a detailed Kerry-Edwards plan for economic recovery that would cut taxes for working Americans, end tax breaks for companies creating jobs overseas, and cut taxes for 99 percent of businesses. Edwards said that the Bush administration's policies have helped the wealthy to protect their wealth at the expense of the middle-class and working families. Edwards called the Bush Tax Plan as dangerous as Socialism to our democracy and free enterprise system.

Cleveland, OH (PRWEB) September 28, 2004 -- Democratic nominee for vice president John Edwards blasted the Bush administration for destroying the strength of the middle-class and weakening the American economy.

Delivering his major economic address in Cleveland, Edwards said, "The president has spent the past four years working to shift the tax burden onto people who work, while eliminating taxes on unearned income. The Bush administration’s new 'tax reform' plan, as revealed in a memo released by his former Treasury Secretary, is a reckless continuation of the President’s history of serving special interests on the backs of working Americans."

"The President’s plan will raise taxes on typical families and take away deductions for home mortgages, charity and health care, hurting middle class families even more than before and rewarding special interests."

“The President’s new ‘tax reform’ is the ultimate expression of his values,” said Edwards. “We don’t know all of the details, but we know that people who inherit hundreds of millions will pay nothing; firemen and waitresses and working people will pay everything. And we know his plan will take away the most important incentive for the single most important form of ownership: it will eliminate entirely the tax deduction for home mortgage interest.”

Edwards pledged to fight every day for an economic plan that will unleash the productive powers of America’s workers and companies, create millions of good-paying jobs and strengthen the middle class.

“Make no mistake. Bush’s tax agenda is the most radical and dangerous economic agenda to hit our shores since socialism a century ago,” said Edwards. “Like socialism, it corrupts the very nature of our democracy and our free enterprise tradition. It is not a plan to grow the American economy. It is a plan to corrupt the American economy and shrink the winners circle.”

3. Oh man, if that stuck
It would be quite damaging.

If there's anything a Freeper hates, it's socialism.

But then there's nothing wrong with the big "s" in and of itself. It's when socialism is combined with a totalitarian government. That's when we got trouble right here in River City.

2. "Communism for the rich"
That's what Bush's tax plan is!

Kind of catchy, don't you think?

6. Socialism is more of a "button" word
I can't tell you how often I hear that from people I meet on the street. FDR was a socialist. JFK was a socialist. All us Democrats are socialists, dontcha know. A gun guy actually said to me, when explaining his "Gun Owners for Bush: Because there's no limit on Democrat this year" t-shirt, that Democrats are like the British, those notorious Socialists, during the Revolutionary War. "Do we have to chase them out of our country again?

"So if Kerry gets elected and then gets assassinated, I should point them in your direction?" I asked. He said no, that he would respect the office. Oh good. I feel so much better.

He said that Democrats could live in America. "We'll let them." But that they couldn't serve because they're Unconstitutional. They don't believe in the Second Amendment, for instance. And they don't believe in "Thou shalt not murder."

When I said that insinuating that Democrats should be shot was sick, he said that millions of dead babies was what was sick, and then walked away in a righteous huff.

A pro-life gun nut. What will they think of next.

4. Bush is planning on eliminating the..
home mortgage deduction?

Why isn't that in the news? It would hurt the real estate market as well as homeowners.

8. Then we would have a depression
The housing market is the one thing which has been keeping the economy (bad as it is), at the level it currently is.
Take away the mortgage interest deduction and watch the numbers tank.
Foreclosures are at an alltime high right now (thank you *), and you will see foreclosures escalate if this comes to fruition.
The Republicans who think they are immune can also watch their property values tank.
This administration has no clue as to what they are doing or what the repercussions might be.
Vote wisely.

9. what's truly worse than socialism
Edited on Tue Sep-28-04 10:39 PM by GreenArrow
is the stinking crony Capitalism and cronyism that we have now. Socialism is certainly preferable to that. Yep, things like the 40 hour work week, paid vacation, the weekend, child labor laws were all horrible, destructive ideas.

Rather a cheap canard by Edwards, but one that will probably resonate to a certain degree with a certain crowd. Who'd of thought it, Edwards red baiting?
