"Eldridge mayor invited, but locked out of First Lady Event"
"Eldridge, Iowa- When Eldridge mayor Frank Wood got an invitation to attend first lady Laura Bush's campaign stop here Friday, he said he planned to go and listen respectfully." Alas, he never got the chance. It seems that he is running for the Iowa Senate as a Democrat, so even though he's the mayor of the town, they still wouldn't let him in. for more details, www.qctimes.com and click on local news. This story is by Ed Tibbets.

1. this is absolutely repulsive
These people act as though they only represent the Christian extremists, the gun nuts, the pro-war lobby etc.

Laura Bush is (sadly), first lady of the UNITED STATES. An AMERICAN CITIZEN, one who holds public office no less, who would like to 'listen respectfully' to her BELONGS there, because IT'S HIS DAMN COUNTRY TOO.

I swear, this kind of shit just infuriates me. Yeah, real 'uniters', this Bush clan.

2. One can only IMAGINE..
if this were reversed!!! ::GASP:: The damn MSM never ever makes ANY issue of the fact that people are accosted, attacked, hit, slapped, dragged and silenced at smirk events, but if the Dems were acting in this disgusting oppressive manner, it would be FLASH NEWS.
:puke:

4. This Story Needs Local Talk Radio Buzz...
Surely if this was a Democrat, it'd be Topic 1 with OxyRush...but nary a word is mentioned when the shoe is on the other foot.

This is a great local story and one that is sure to get lots of play, or let's hope so. Here's hoping the good Mayor uses this snub to call a Press Conference and make some noise...he's been given the golden mike...USE IT.

I heard a Madison wingnut female talk show host on the AEI Presents the Washington Journal this morning claiming she'd been to several bunnypants events and never was asked for her political loyalty or to sign a form (duh! Probably went as a beard or escort for a rich GOOP sugar daddy). It was bad enough she's one of those "I was a Democrat". In my book, if you "were" one, you never were.

Here's hoping some good locals in Cedar Rapids, Dubuque and the Quad Cities burn up the phone lines to the local call-in shows. Flood the papers with local LTTEs (ones from Oregon get strange looks in local newsrooms) and energize more Iowa Democrats and Independents; who, from what I am hearing, can't wait to vote against Pickles and the rest of this regime.

5. The newspaper in question is relatively liberal
and as a subscriber, I fully intend to write a letter to the editor. As far as local talk, in my personal situation, I work 12 hour shifts, so I am generally unable to listen, let alone call the local P.M. talk show host(who is about as Repub as they get). The QC Times does have a reporter who is one of us, so I imagine she already knows about this, and I believe the Scott County Dems are all over this. And the Iowa State Dems obviously know about it. Hopefully, they will attempt to get the message out further than the immediate QC area. If not, I intend to do my best to do just that.

6. Spread The Word, My Friend
I imagine WOC in Davenport, KDTH in Dubuque and WMT in Cedar Rapids have some decent shows that get a lot of listeners. Maybe even WHO in Des Moines could be a good place to check out.

The curious thing is how the Iowa Democrats are always underestimated. Be it national elections (A Repugnican hasn't won the state since '84) and even during the primaries (putting in that big final push for Kerry).

I'm noticing a lot of people either wincing (mostly wingnuts) or laughing in ridicule of how this regime distances itself from the people and is highly partisan and divisive. The more stories that emphasize this, the more undecided minds that just feel dirty supporting this regime could be turned. And that's not a bad thing.

Cheers from Chicago!

7. I found it interesting that the rally was for "thanking volunteers"
They say that if you want to get in to see the President, the best way is to volunteer some time. That gets you a ticket. I believe that was in the New York Times yesterday.

Bush is using the rallies to drum up volunteers, whereas we have people just coming in off the street (like me) because they want a "regime change" as one blind fellow put it.

And all the Republicans could do was talk about how he wasn't on the list. But how do you think the people of Eldridge are going to vote now knowing the mayor of the town where the event was being held wasn't welcome.
