You all know it...
The Commission on Presidential Debates, a corporation run jointly by the DNC and RNC to put forth Presidential Debate Formats over the last two decades have made a mockery of the democracy of America.
What I wish for, long for, is for someone - those who sponsered the debates before, the League of Women Voters perhaps or other Civic Organizations (Rock the Vote, etc.) to join with renegade party officials from both major parties on denouncing the debates.
NOT from the standpoint from which most criticisms are launched, that of third party acceptance. I have no problem with third parties but there's noone on all 50 states that I know of right now or at a respectable level this year so while the point is a valid one, this year it is moot.
BUT from the standpoint of the non-debate they have become. I denounce our party leaders for being a part of this scam and call on them to get out of operating the democratic process directly.
I do not trust any political party, even my own, with the operation of the democratic process itself. The Presidential Debates are a part of this process.
However, third parties and watchdog groups cannot and will not be the ones to fill the void. The effort simply for a citizen commission is unlikely to succeed.
Instead, I suggest that the aforementioned organizations be agressive in the democratic process. In my mind, The League of Women Voters, Rock the Vote, and PBS should join together and challenge this year's candidates publicly and loudly to a debate on their format, or suffer the consequences.
What say you?
