I think McCain's schtick is to stick it to Bush subtly
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/01/politics/campaign/01CND-CAMP.html?oref=login&hp

"This president showed last night why the American people have placed their trust and confidence in his leadership since he stood in the rubble of the World Trade Center," Mr. McCain said.

This can ONLY be interpreted ironically. There is simply no connection to Bush's "performance" last night and any "confidence" in his "leadership" other than to say the "reason" is built on lies.

Which may indeed have been McCain's intended meaning.

Otherwise, the statement makes no sense at all, except as an indicator of delusional thinking.

3. I wish folks here would get it through their heads
that McCain is a Repube through & through. Every once
in a while he stubbornly tells the truth just for the hell
of it, and takes a moderate position on an issue or two,
but in his heart he is a loyal Repube THROUGH & THROUGH.

6. McCain is a sellout, opportunist, decietful bastard, take your pick.
I have lost ALL respect for that guy. He's on my shitlist. After the presidential election, I'm going to refocus and work on getting him out of office. I hear he has an opponent that is amazingly gaining some ground.

7. I think McCain's shtick is to support Bush fully
Even if he doesn't like him. McCain is not a RINO, he's a real Republican and very very conservative. It's not an act. He will not desert his party, even if his party has repeatedly deserted him.

Stop hoping for McCain to suddenly tear off his Republican suit and reveal the Super(Secret)Democrat costume underneath. Not gonna happen.

9. Don't be fooled by McCain!!!!
Edited on Fri Oct-01-04 08:00 PM by amBushed
He is supporting Bush*, period. He wants the GOP nomination in 2008. So, he must support the GOP candidate this year no matter what he really feels about him.

At the same time, he is being very careful not to alienate moderates by being too partisan. If he wants to win in 2008 he can't be seen as a right wing extremist. But, he is showing up at almost all of Bush*s staged events and talking up Bush*s "leadership".

McCain is and will be the enemy. Don't lose sight of that.

10. in 2008 he'll be pushing 70 (something)
... and he's not got a good track record in the health department.

i think he's just toeing the GOP line for the sake of the party.

personally, i think he despises every ounce of Bush, but he's a team player and will support his party to the end.

12. McCain just makes Bush look bad
Believe me, I am not a McCain fan but every time they appear together don't you think many folks un-consciously compare them and think about the Republican they could have had.

Don't kid yourself--McCain just makes Bush look like the fool he is.
