Next 2 debates: * win, then Kerry win. |
|
The next presidential debate will be a "townhall meeting" format. There will no doubt be so many rules that it will not really be a townhall meeting format, but something sort of like that. Bush does better at that sort of thing than straight talking behind a podium, so I expect that Bush will win that one. Not that I think Kerry will do poorly. Not at all. But Bush with his folksy, unintelligible talk that scrambles facts will do better in that format.
THEN will be the great debate on economics. I fully expect that Kerry will win that one, if he continues to retain his presidential and calm style (which is his natural style, anyway). He is the one with the facts and the better plans on his side, so I would be very surprised if Bush were to win this one, or even if it were a draw.
So....watcha think? A Bush win, then a Kerry win? Or....???

3. *'s ability to charm the simpletons will only work on those who are |
|
already members of his cult.
If the independent voters asking the questions are anything like the ones I've been facing for the past week (tabling for Kerry) they want substance they want tough answers to hard questions not bullshit charm.

with a relaxed town hall format. He will do just fine.

7. I doubt very much that bush will win any of the debates. |
|
Bush doesn't do well anywhere. especially when he doesn't know the questions in advance. He will be his usual, arrogant, bumbling, stammering self.

8. I heard on NBC this morning that the bush campaign has not agreed to |
|
the rules! Do you suppose they ever will? It could be an escape route for them to get out of the debates. They would spin that Kerry campaigns demands were just to rediculous, and to be President you have to stand your ground!

9. Kerry better at both upcoming debates |
|
But * will be spun to win the next so you're right about that. Hopefully, a lot of people will actually watch the debates and see that Kerry can be very personable and charming. The expectations aren't high in that area so he's sure to surpass them. The more people that watch, the better IMO. As frantically as the R/W pundits and their compliant media are trying to peddle balderdash that last Thursday's debate had 'no knockout punches thrown' and 'no clear winner', EVERYONE who saw it knows that John Kerry did great and * was pouty, arrogant, ill-prepared, and just an all-around buffoon. It was a slam dunk and they're afraid to say so. Get everyone you know to watch the next 2 debates.

13. the questions will be approved before the debate by the moderator |
|
i'm not sure if the moderator will then ask those questions or allow the questions they approved to be asked by the audience members who had those questions.

last winter doing a campaign event in Iowa where he simply stood around and aswered questions from a group of a couple of hundred people. Ir was astonishing. This is how he won Iowa.

17. i saw this also, and they were also challenging him with follow ups |
|
most of them didn't ask for pictures of autographs. most of them wanted answers to their questions about things affecting their lives and important to them. even when kerry would answer some would still question it. i remember one veteran who said something about politicians always promising this or that yet it never gets done.and kerry was truthful in that he did say that if he was president he would need a democratic congress to help him get things done. and just the fact that it seemed more like he was there for them rather than them being there for him really said a lot about him. he knew he had to earn votes and the people deserved answers from him. it wasn't about what he deserved from them but the other way around.

If (most likely when) Kerry wins this second debate people will shift toward him even more. They'll be "damn, this guy is likeable and he has progressive plans".

20. Bush may have boxed himself into a corner |
|
Bush blew it Thursday by looking arrogant and angry. Now, if he uses his smirky demeanor, people are going to be reminded of the first debate! So the bs-ing demeanor that would normally "get him through" town hall questions may actually trip him up. He has to be aware that he was too "angry-looking" "smirky" etc Thursday. He will be told to avoid this at all costs. But what is left in his repertoire of responses? We'll see, but Bush certainly made his options more difficult Thursday nite. I don't expect as difficult of questions coming from the crowd, but they may be more unpredictable. No followups will allow bs to go unchallenged. AT this point, I will say what i said going into the first debate: Kerry's goal is to look presidential, to be direct, earnest, believable, knowledgeable but not aloof, and certainly not wishy-washy. Kerry does this, he will build on what he gained last week, regardless of whether Bush helps him by bungeling like he did Thursday.
