VIDEO 1906 San Francisco Earthquake Aftermath,...7.28 min. chilling
Edited on Fri Aug-05-05 09:27 PM by ElsewheresDaughter
Chilling post-earthquake footage, shot in the Western Addition and on Market Street in San Francisco. The first sequence (Western Addition) shows a great deal of evocative neighborhood detail almost one hundred years ago.

1. Interesting piece
There was an interesting show on the Discovery channel/History international that exposed a massive cover-up about the actual destruction caused by the 1906 quake. The government did it because San Fran was taking off and they were afraid people would abandon the city. It was really interesting. I wish I could tell you which station I saw it on.

3. Fascinating. Thanks for posting!
Being a genealogist, I love history. I love anything that helps it come alive for me.

I'm writing a very detailed family history of my Smiths. Things like this help me get in the mood, as does old music. I like Josephine Baker and Django Reinhardt for writing.

6. ISTR opium bonfires outside SF the same year being on film
Those would also be interesting. 1904 was when the first narcotics were banned IIRC.
