Molesting driving instructor gets two years

A former Department of Motor Vehicles driving instructor who said he was driven to grope his female teen students because of a phobia of being in a car he wasn’t driving himself was sentenced to two years in jail today.

Calvin Hoang Cat, 38, of San Jose pleaded no contest in June to molesting 14 girls between the ages of 16 and 18, resulting in 19 counts of annoying or molesting a child under the age of 18, eight counts of sexual battery and two counts of battery.

The molestation occurred between Oct. 28 and Nov. 14, when Cat was working in the DMV’s Redwood City office.
