Camp Casey in Chico, CA is up and running
at Children's Park across from the Feed Store at intersection of 1st Street/Esplanade near downtown Chico.

A Peace Vigil to Honor Casey Sheehan and to show solidarity with Cindy has plans to run 24 hours a day from this afternoon til.....??? next week???

So far we have about 25 people making signs and setting things up and we are planning on a larger turnout tomorrow as word gets out.

Hope to see some DUers there.

I am stocking up on supplies like ice chests, sign materials and well water, so can't answer any questions til later tonight.

We love you Cindy and thank-you for all you are doing and for giving us the push we needed to get off our collective arses and do something. :)

3. Update on Camp Casey, Chico, CA
We have our "camp" set up and ready for all that want to join us in the coming days. Food-Not Bombs provided a great meal at dinner and drinks and ice were donated by local vendors and a local motel.

Top population was about 25 earlier this evening with about 10 staying the night. We have scoped out all the local bars that have bathroom access and have located all the sprinkler heads that are buried in the grass... Hopefully our signs will be protected by the make-shift tent we have set up...Sprinklers are due to come on around 1am.

We have had a great show of support from the local traffic that passes by with much honking of horns, waving and yells of encouragement.

We spoke with one mother who's son is AWOL in Europe.

We plan on making 1847+ crosses during our stay and will get help from the local college and high school students that pass by when school starts on Tuesday.

A reporter from the Chico News and Review will be by at 6am ish for photos.

No fire ants here and even the mosquitoes have been kept at bay with the few citronella candles I brought down.

Off to get more supplies ready for the morning.

Peace-seekers find common cause at Camp Casey in Chico

Their question is rather simple, yet getting an answer seems almost impossible. But that doesn't matter to them: They will continue to ask and continue to camp....

...Camp Casey has begun in Chico, with about 20 people dedicated to seeking the "real" answer to the same question Sheehan has: Why?...

..."This is not a war," said Robert Trausch, a Vietnam veteran who will be camping out as long as he has to at Children's Playground downtown. "It's an invasion and an occupation. The men and women dying are dying because of false reasons," he said, "not democracy; they're dying because rich people want oil."...

...Trausch, along with many others camping out, just wants troops to start coming home. Peace is what should drive this country, not war, he said....

..."You bring peace by building infrastructures, education — not by the end of a missile," he said....
